Nicotinic acid (injections)

Niacin (injections) refers to specific antipellagric agents. In this regard, the drug has the designation "PP-vitamin." Niacin (injections) when used in the initial stages of pellagra helps to eliminate its effects.

In addition to antipellagric properties, vitamin PP helps to improve carbohydrate metabolism, has a positive effect on diabetes in mild forms, heart disease, liver disease, peptic ulcer in the duodenum and stomach and enterocolitis. Niacin (injections) has a vasodilating property, and also promotes wound healing.

PP-vitamin has a lipoprotein effect, reducing blood levels of lipoproteins.

Niacin (injections) contributes to the normalization of the brain and nervous system. In addition, its positive effect on the cardiovascular system and digestion is noted. Nicotinic acid for the skin is one of the main assistants in maintaining it in a healthy condition. In addition, PP-vitamin helps to ensure normal vision, is involved in improving blood circulation, reducing high blood pressure due to its vasodilating properties.

Nicotinic acid for lactation is a stimulant. Vitamin PP is involved in vascular blood circulation and acceleration of blood circulation in the mammary gland.

The drug is available in ampoules.

In ischemic stroke, PP-vitamin is administered intravenously. The dosage is one milliliter of a one percent solution.

Intravenous administration must be carried out slowly. Fast intravenous administration of the solution can provoke a significant decrease in blood pressure. Intramuscular and subcutaneous administration of nicotinic acid causes pain.

Ingestion of the drug (in the form of a powder or tablets), in particular, on an empty stomach or by persons with hypersensitivity, can cause dizziness, redness of the upper part of the body and face, a rush of blood to the head, paresthesia (numbness in the limbs), and rash. As practice shows, these manifestations are eliminated independently after a certain period of time.

Intravenously, the drug is contraindicated in people with severe hypertension (with a pronounced persistent increase in blood pressure) and atherosclerosis.

If hypersensitivity to nicotinic acid is detected, the drug is recommended to be replaced with nicotinamide. An exception may be cases of using the drug as a vasodilator.

In order to increase lactation, the drug is prescribed fifty milligrams orally up to three times a day for ten to fifteen minutes before breastfeeding.

When prescribing during lactation, it is necessary to warn the patient about a possible short-term reaction (redness on the face and upper body, feeling of fullness of the mammary glands, in rare cases, itching). Nicotinic acid is recommended in combination with ascorbic acid.

It should be noted that prolonged intake of vitamin PP in large doses can provoke the development of fatty liver. In order to prevent this complication, products rich in methionine (an amino acid not synthesized in the body) should be included in the diet or methionine and other lipotropic (selectively interacting with fats) agents should be prescribed.

Nicotinic acid is included in the composition of such drugs as: "Vitiodurol", "Xanthinol Nicotinate", "Vice", "Nikoverin", "Lipostabil", "Spazmokor", "Nikoshpan" and others.

The appointment of the drug should be carried out only under the supervision of a specialist.
