Machine 9A-91 - a favorite weapon of special units of law enforcement agencies of Russia. The development is also exploited by civilians as a licensed means of self-defense. The assault rifle was widely used due to its small dimensions and high combat qualities. Despite the emergence of a whole mass of more advanced samples, the model continues to be successfully used to this day.
Characteristics
Machine 9A-91, a photo of which is presented in this material, differs in the following tactical and technical parameters:

- weight - 2.1 kg (in the absence of cartridges in the store);

- magazine capacity - 20 rounds.
Automation
Model 9A-91 is an automatic machine that operates on the principle of the removal of spent powder gases from the barrel channel. Locking is performed by turning the shutter to 4 combat stops. The trigger trigger mechanism makes it possible to fire in single bursts and hit targets with continuous bursts.
Fuse
A safety device in the form of an interpreter is located above the trigger guard, on the left side of the receiver. In the modernized versions, which began to be produced in 1995, the fuse is installed on the right. On the left side, the manufacturer began to place the bar for landing optical sights. Early specimens contained a muzzle brake. However, subsequently they decided to abandon its use.
Butt
9A-91 (automatic) contains a folding butt, which is pulled up and then moved in the frontal direction. Like other parts, in addition to the pistol grip made of plastic, the butt is made of high impact steel.
In the folded position, the small-sized machine 9A-91 becomes extremely convenient for hidden wearing under clothes. For comfortable transportation, the sample is equipped with a folding shutter handle.
Cartridges
Machine 9A-91 is equipped with armor-piercing ammunition caliber 9 mm, specially designed for this sample. Alternatively, cheaper 6-round cartridges are used. The latter provide effective defeat for opponents who are dressed in personal protective equipment of the 3rd class. The impact power of the machine is enough to break through a steel sheet 8 mm thick at a distance of up to 100 m.
Modifications
At one time, an export modification of the machine was developed, which was produced under the MA-91 brand. The main difference was the possibility of using new armor-piercing cartridges of 5.45 × 39 mm, 7.62 × 39 mm and 5.56 × 45 mm. However, significant demand for the sample was not observed. Therefore, pretty soon it was decided to remove the modification from mass production.
9A-91 - a machine that became the prototype for the development of a silent sniper rifle brand VSK-94. The latter is characterized by a folding butt of the skeletal plan, the presence of a functional mount for the installation of optical sights and the possibility of using a silencer.
Equipment
During operation of the sample, the use of a removable silencer is allowed. Initially, the developers provided for the possibility of installing the GP-95 series under - barrel grenade launcher . However, after conducting special tests, the manufacturer decided to abandon such a configuration, since the machine was not strong enough and too light for these purposes.
Benefits
Despite its relatively modest dimensions, the 9A-91 is an automatic machine that acts as a real workhorse. The sample is particularly compact and streamlined.
In the 90s of the last century, the model was widely used by domestic users for hidden wearing, it was used by special services to capture and counter armed groups located in residential premises and cars.
Due to the small mass and modest thickness of the case, the 9A-91 (automatic) is convenient to carry behind the belt, in the inner pocket of outer clothing, on a loop over the shoulder. When folded, the butt does not increase the dimensions of the sample. The machine is easily brought into combat condition from a stowed position and folds back.
The model is extremely reliable. Effective shooting can be done regardless of the degree of contamination of the weapon.
Finally
Despite the availability of more advanced small-sized imported assault rifles, the 9A-91 is still in service with special units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and internal troops. Moreover, the model is actively used by state special forces of the armed forces of Belarus and Mongolia when it is necessary to carry out operations to seize objects and free hostages.
