The provision of first aid at the scene of a car or industrial accident requires decisiveness, speed and certainty. In case of head injuries, it is important to ensure the immediate and safe transportation of the victim to the hospital. The position or condition of the injured does not always make it possible to bandage the wounds properly. Then a simple retaining dressing is applied - sling-shaped, which conveniently covers rounded surfaces.
Dressing material preparation
Like any other dressing, the scribbular is applied using a bandage and a pad of cotton-gauze swab or sterile gauze. It is fixed using the four free ends of the bandage with two nodes. Therefore, you must first prepare it:
- cut off a piece of a wide bandage longer than the head, so that there is room for tying;
- from both ends to cut or tear this piece so that long ties are obtained, and in the center there remains a whole area 5-10 centimeters long (depending on the place of application of the bandage);
- lay a gauze napkin or cotton wool wrapped in gauze folded in several layers on the central part.
The surface of the gasket that will be in contact with the wound surface must be sterile, so you need to touch it from the back.
First aid teams can be equipped with a modern version of such a bandage, which is fastened very quickly with a contact tape. As a rule, they are used for injuries of the lower jaw.
Fixation of a sling bandage on various areas of the head
On convex surfaces it is necessary to ensure a good fit and fastening of the dressing. To do this, the sling-like bandage is fixed crosswise, forming in the center a cup-shaped recess that covers the damaged area. At the same time, the lower ties go up, and the upper ones, on the contrary, go down.
The sling-like bandage on the nose has the shortest middle part, 5-6 cm. First, the nose area is covered with the central part of the bandage. Then the lower ties are fixed on the crown, and the upper ones under the back of the head.
In case of damage to the crown of the head or forehead, a wider piece of gauze or tissue is taken for dressing. The ends of the matter are tied under the nape and chin, not forgetting to cross them.
A sling-like bandage on the jaw is applied not only for wounds, but also for a fracture, dislocation of the mandibular joint. She should fix this part of the skull well, so they make the ties longer than usual for her. The lower ends are tied on the crown of the head, and the upper ends are led under the back of the head, cross, and then fixed on the forehead. This prevents the lower loop from sliding off the parietal region.
Other blending options
The use of a sling bandage is justified on any part of the body with an uneven surface: on the shoulder, in the groin or axillary region. It can be pre-fixed with a cotton-gauze pad if bandaging is done βin one handβ.
Due to its cost-effectiveness, this dressing may be the only possible option with a lack of dressing.
According to the principle of the sling bandage
A cotton-gauze dressing (a means of individual protection of the respiratory organs) is based on the principle discussed above.
It should tightly cover the nose and chin, so it has a fairly large middle part, filled with a layer of cotton wool, at least 20 centimeters in length and width. Tied tightly on the crown and under the back of the head.
For its manufacture, a gauze cut is taken, a rectangle of several layers of a cotton roving is placed in the center, laid on top and bottom. In the laying area, the dressing is sewn around the perimeter and through the center. The free parts of the gauze are cut in half and also quilted for strength.
In emergency situations, when there is no time to prepare PPE, you can use a piece of fabric, which tear off the edges, and put a thick layer of cotton wool in the middle.
