Every year, the Ministry of Education and Science gives a rating of the best schools. To get into the TOP-500, you must pass a rigorous selection according to special criteria. In 2016, the indicators of passing final exams in ninth grades and the results of performance at the All-Russian Olympiad were taken into account. Paradoxically, the results of the exam were not taken into account. Gymnasium 5 (Khabarovsk) was in 465th place. This is the only educational institution of the region included in the rating list.
What influenced such a high mark that graduates say about the school and why do parents want their children to go to the first grade of the gymnasium? These issues are the subject of this article.
Gymnasium Foundation
The official opening of the school took place in 1936, the construction of the building began a year earlier. The children of the NKVD employees should have been educated in it. So there was 5 gymnasium (Khabarovsk), the history of which has already exceeded eighty years.
During the war years, the building was a hospital. In 1945, training was resumed, only the first two floors were used for classes. The rest were in need of repair.
Specialization
The 1960s became a turning point for the school. Nobody still knows why there was a specialization in the study of a foreign language. In 1964, additional English hours were introduced - more than seven lessons per week. High school students studied foreign literature and mastered technical and military translation. To cope with the general educational program, additional zero lessons were introduced. The school day began at 7-20 and consisted of seven classes.
In the 90s of the last century, the school was included in the international exchange program, which further increased its prestige. Travel money was allocated by the state. But, despite the high level of education and a clearly expressed humanitarian orientation, the institution did not have the status of a gymnasium. It appeared only in 1992.
Now Gymnasium 5 (Khabarovsk) is not standing still, new forms of preparing schoolchildren are being introduced. For example, in the fifth grade, children begin to learn a second language (French or Japanese).
Learning Features
On September 1, 2016, there were 25 classes in the "five", the number of students - 732 people. The gymnasium is fully equipped, there are no empty seats.
Learning English is implemented from the second grade (three hours a week). In the middle schoolchildren, two more additional lessons of a foreign language await. Ninth graders must undergo pre-profile training. Gymnasium 5 (Khabarovsk) has a philological specialization. An in-depth study of the following disciplines has been introduced:
- Russian language,
- foreign language (English and French),
- English literature,
- technical translation.
In the gymnasium, work is being carried out within the framework of the scientific society of students, there is a school newspaper.

Among the residents of the city, an educational institution is considered prestigious. Analysis of the correspondence of parents of students in the forums suggests that ped. the team is carefully formed, teachers have the required qualifications.
It’s hard to get to the gymnasium, because the children who belong to it at the place of residence have the preemptive right to get an education. Parents go to various tricks so that their children learn here. Their motives are clear: quality education is the key to a successful future.
How to proceed
Admission to the first grade for the 2017/2018 academic year began on February 28, 2017. 52 children should become young gymnasium students. Half of them will go to class 1 "A", half - to 1 "B". Parent applications are accepted in paper and electronic forms.
According to the Admission Rules, Gymnasium 5 (Khabarovsk) does not conduct entrance tests and interviews for future first-graders.
