The national flag of Tunisia has a traditional rectangle shape with a classic aspect ratio of three to two. The cloth is made in scarlet color. Precisely in the center of the rectangular flag is a large white circle. It has an image of a crescent moon that surrounds a five-pointed star. This emblem is made in the same rich scarlet shade as the main field of the banner.

The diameter of the white circle is one third of the length of the canvas, and its middle is located at the intersection of the diagonals. The flag of Tunisia is used in all administrative organizations. The president has his own banner. Its difference lies in the presence on the top of the flag of the inscription of gold color - the Arabic text means "for the people." The presidential standard also has a ribbon attached to the flagpole - a white disk with a star and a crescent moon is depicted on the red field, and the edges of the fabric are decorated with gold fringe.

Appearance story

The flag of Tunisia appeared in the eighteenth century. Then the red cloth with the image of the crescent was used on ships. When the territory was captured by the Ottoman Empire, a flag in the form of a tricolor with blue, red and green stripes was introduced. He symbolized the rule of the Turks.

The modern flag is also similar to Turkish, although the political situation has changed. The difference is that in Tunisia the emblem with a crescent moon and a star is located in the center. In Turkey, she is depicted closer to the edge, in addition, the colors are used in the opposite order - the background is white, and the picture is scarlet. History stores information about another option. At the time of the French protectorate, a special banner was used here. Then the flag of France was marked on the flagpole. This option has been in use for several years. Interestingly, it was adopted specifically by the inhabitants of Tunisia, the French government did not insist on any changes in symbolism.

The adoption of the official appearance of the flag

For some time, the idea of creating the Arab Islamic Republic was in use. It would have united Tunisia and Libya. For the new state, a flag was developed with horizontal stripes of red, white and black and a crescent image with a star in the center. The association project was not supported by citizens, therefore, such a banner has never been approved. The modern version of the flag of Tunisia was created in 1999 and has not changed since then.
