Mariel was born on November 22, 1961 in the town of Mill Valley, California, in the family of writer and ecologist John Jack Hemingway and Vira as a girl of Whitlessy. Mariel has two older sisters - Margot and Joan Hemingway. The actress got her first name in memory of a small fishing village where her grandfather and her little father went fishing, and the second she got in honor of her dad's grandmother. She spent her childhood in a grandfather's house in Idaho.

Personal life

In 1984, Mariel Hemingway married legally married to director and restaurateur Stephen Douglas Krisman. Two daughters were born from the union: Dree Hemingway, who followed in the footsteps of her mother and also became an actress, and Langley Fox, illustrator and model. Mariel is currently divorced and lives with her daughters in Los Angeles. She works in a yoga studio, attends acting classes and writes books.

Mariel Hemingway is the granddaughter of the famous writer Ernest Hemingway, who committed suicide a few months before her birth. Thirty-five years after the suicide of Ernest Hemingway, Mariel's older sister, Margot, died of an overdose of epilepsy medication. The sister’s death was declared suicide, although the family disputed this fact, claiming that the cause of death was a gradual increase in the dose of the drug, which no longer had an effect on the disease, but was fatal to health.
