The chief engineer of the factory - Zimin - discovers a large batch of defective manufactory. He orders to leave her in the warehouse for now. Zimin intends to personally check her condition. But the subordinate decides to bypass his order to urgently get rid of the product and orders immediately to ship it for shipment, without waiting for the inspector to appear. Zimin is barely worth appearing in the warehouse when the defective product disappears in an unknown direction. This fact alarms Polyakov, especially since the recipient of the products is listed as none other than his new neighbor, Valentin Navrotsky. It seems that the factory is not the first time to carry out a scam with a defective manufactory, and the management does not know anything.
Once in the courtyard there is a terrible crime, the victim of which is engineer Zimin. Soon the local bully is declared the culprit, but Misha is ready to argue with anyone that the street gangster has nothing to do with this. Polyakov intends to independently investigate the crime, despite the fact that he has no experience in the search case. During the investigation, he manages to enter a gang that is associated with the murder of an engineer.
