Team appearances

In 1999, he spent the first match for the national team. During his career in the national team, which lasted seven years, he spent 20 matches in the form of the country's main team, scoring one goal. The defender’s only goal for the national team was scored in the 2004 European Championship qualifier against Wales. This goal was the only one for both teams in the two-match confrontation and brought the Russian team to the final of the continental championship.

At Euro 2004 itself, which took place in Portugal, Vadim Evseev took part in all three matches of his team at the group stage. According to the results of the group stage, the Russians took the last place in their group and did not reach the playoff stage.

Popularity

Vadim Evseev became popular all over Russia after two games in the Russian national team against Wales in play-offs at Euro 2004. In the first fight, which took place on November 15, 2003 and ended with the score 0-0, defender V. Evseev made a rough tackle against the Welshman Ryan Giggs, for which he soon received an answer - Giggiz hit the offender with an elbow in the ear.

A small scandal began on the field. Players of both teams crowded around the lying Evseev and the referees, trying to achieve a fair solution to the situation. However, the chief referee ignored the episode, because he did not see the moment of the blow. After the match, Ryan Giggs told the press that the tackle of the Russian defender was the toughest trick in his career. Among fans of Wales, public indignation was expressed against Evseev.

The Russian Football Association has appealed to UEFA to disqualify Giigza for an elbow strike. As a result, the Welshman was suspended for the next two matches. The conflict was actively developing in the media, as a result of which more and more pressure was put on the players. As it turned out later, Vadim Evseev was mentally depressed, because shortly before the match, his daughter underwent a complex heart operation. It was difficult for the football player to cope with the mental and moral burden, in addition, there was a question of his non-participation in the match with the Welsh.

In the return game, which took place on November 19, 2003 in Cardiff, fans of Wales booed every touch of Vadim Yevseyev's ball. Nevertheless, he managed to score an important goal for his team in the 22nd minute, which became the only and victorious in two matches.
