Treatment of cough in adults and children

Cough is the main and most common symptom in known diseases of the upper respiratory system. There are also a number of other diseases in which this unpleasant symptom may appear (diseases and disorders of the cardiovascular system, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, disorders of the nervous system, etc.).

Of course, medication for coughing in adults is not always required, since in this way the body independently gets rid of foreign substances that have a negative effect. The main external irritants are cold air, allergens, inflammation, sputum in the bronchi, hyperoxia, mechanical formations, accumulation of mucus, etc. The frequency and intensity of a cough in a person depends on the source and degree of the disease.
Therefore, the treatment of coughing in adults depends on the cause. For example, to eliminate a cold, it is necessary to consult a doctor, since improper treatment of cough in adults can aggravate the situation. It should be noted that even the treatment of cough in adults and children is different. For children, the dosage of many drugs is much lower, and some drugs are completely contraindicated for the young body.

There are several types of cough. Treatment of wet cough in adults is required for the active release of sputum, which affects the lower respiratory tract.
Dry cough causes unpleasant and painful sensations in the throat. As a rule, it appears at an early stage of colds, when sputum does not yet accumulate in the bronchi. You can treat it with the help of an iodine mesh applied to the chest area. You can also rub your chest and feet with a mixture of hot pepper and vegetable oil (a third of a teaspoon of pepper and 2 tablespoons of oil). Effectively helps to warm the respiratory tract with fir oil, which should rub the chest and back (preferably before bedtime). A mixture of grape wine and pepper is considered an effective remedy. For 2 cups of white wine, you need to take 1-2 tablespoons of dry pepper roots, after which the mixture is boiled and cooled. Take half a glass several times a day. Of course, this method is not suitable for the treatment of cough in children, since alcohol is included in the recipe.
To decide how to cure a cough in an adult, the stage of cough should be determined, as this can be an acute or chronic form. As a rule, an acute cough occurs with colds, pneumonia, the ingress of foreign objects directly into the respiratory tract, pleurisy, whooping cough, etc. The chronic form is found in oncological processes in the lungs, bronchial asthma and / or bronchitis in a chronic form, mental disorders, taking certain medications.

Very often an inveterate cough is a negative consequence of smoking. To get rid of this symptom, you can brew the roots of forest mallow with boiling milk and take half a glass three times a day.

With damage to the upper respiratory tract, inhalation with the addition of drugs or decoctions of various herbs helps. The most common herbs used to treat dry and wet cough are coltsfoot, sage, chamomile, eucalyptus, thyme. Also, during the course of treatment, it is advisable to give the patient a plentiful drink, which helps to normalize the body's water balance and leads to a quick liquefaction of sputum. The best option is decoctions of herbs, medicinal teas, fruit drinks and compotes from fresh and dried fruits and vegetables. If sputum is sufficiently viscous and persists for a long time, take special medications (expectorant and mucolytic effects). Of course, only the attending physician who observes the sick person can prescribe them.
