Hockey player Irbe Arthur: biography, photo

The Soviet hockey school gave the world the famous Vladislav Tretyak and this predetermined the fate of other talented goalkeepers. It was impossible to avoid a comparison with the master of the Soviet hockey school for any talented goalkeeper. Someone flashed and disappeared from the hockey horizon, others for a long time remained in the hearts of hockey fans. Arthur Irbe is the goalkeeper who belongs to the second group. First club

Latvia in the highest hockey league of the Soviet Union was represented by one club - Dynamo Riga. The fate of a talented young man was determined initially. If you play, then only for Dynamo. Despite the dimensions that are small enough for hockey (Arthur’s height was 173 centimeters), it was already clear at a young age that the debut in the adult team was just around the corner. And so it happened. At the age of 19, Irbe made his debut for the main team of Dynamo and literally within six months became the main goalkeeper of the Riga club. What is most surprising, Irbe Arthur won the competition from the experienced Vitaly Samoilov (Olympic champion).

At that time, the situation in hockey was such that any talented hockey player on the army line was taken to the base club of the national team of Moscow CSKA. And again, Arthur showed integrity, refusing the persuasion of various kinds of officials.

Another difference from teammates was noticed at the pre-training. Despite such extraordinary actions, in all teams the partners were very friendly towards Irba, calling Michelin for their outward resemblance to an advertising doll of the same company.

Another fact of the biography of an excellent goalkeeper went unnoticed by the fans, but it made life difficult for the goalkeeper himself. The fact is that once Irbe very much bit her own dog. Most went to the right hand. The question was about amputation of the hand, and only the skill of the surgeons saved Irbe's hand. But still, Arthur could not fully play with this hand.
