The series receives reviews of the positive plan for an interesting plot. It was based on the story of two guys. Fate brought them together in the twenties of the last century in Vladivostok. An ordinary street boy, Ilya, was raised by a principled officer in the Japanese garrison. Arkady studied in the cadet corps and insanely respected the principles of his White Guard father.
But fate was pleased to bring together these two guys belonging to different worlds. The height of chaos and mass tragedies in the country led to the fact that they both lost all their relatives. Left alone, the guys decided to create a legend that could help them in the future struggle for survival. Young people impersonated themselves as siblings, brought up in equal conditions.
For many years of terrible changes, the friendship of Ilya and Arkady seemed stable and unbreakable. They themselves believed in the existence of kinship among themselves. And only a romantic passion for the same girl threatened their kinship.
The daughter of the commander of the Red Army, Eugene, became the object of desire for both guys. While the coquette could not make a choice and continued to flirt with young people, their relationship survived the first strain. And from that moment he only intensified, risking once to turn the named brothers into enemies.
For ten years, Arkady and Ilya tried to maneuver on the verge of breaking relations. And the beginning of World War II only intensified the confrontation between the guys. Participating in an active struggle with the German invaders, Ilyusha was captured. But integrity and devotion did not allow him to betray his ideals and renounce his homeland. What could not be said about Arkasha. The desire to save his life pushed him to agree to a deal with the Germans. As a result, the once closest people were on opposite sides of the barricades. Now they were open enemies, whom nothing could reconcile. It seemed that only one of the guys could survive in the new round of battle. And the changing fortune masterfully confused their life stories in order to delay the inevitable triumph of truth and justice. For the sake of the long-awaited happiness, to which friends went their own ways, everyone had to go through many more trials and difficulties.
The ending of the series "Red Mountains" is intriguing. He will not disappoint even the most sophisticated viewer.
Acting team
It was not easy for the director to select the actors for the main roles in the series "Red Mountains". Reviews about the film are mostly positive also due to the fact that everything worked out perfectly. Actors directed by the director were perfectly matched. According to many viewers, they cannot imagine anyone else in this role. Of the majority of applicants, Yevgeny Zaitsev almost immediately singled out Yevgeny Tsyganova and Maria Kozhevnikova. But Zhenya seemed to him sugary and a little not textured, although after meeting with a talented performer, he immediately imbued him with unlimited trust. A prejudice against Maria was dictated by her previous roles in youth series and the usual image of a stupid blonde. But when the girl appeared on the set, on the very first day Zaitsev changed his attitude towards her. After the shooting, the director himself admitted that a different cast would not have made his story so piercing, emotional and open.
The remaining actors immediately did not cause Eugene's doubts, since he had encountered many in his past projects. And for some, their reputation spoke positively. As a result, even passable characters and episodic roles turned out to be real, lively and caused a lot of emotions in the audience. None of the professionals did not cause trouble and did not require special treatment for their stellar status. Everyone had to work hard in bad weather, cold and scenery as close to reality as possible.

At the time of filming, the age of Maria Kozhevnikova was 28 years old, which complicated her harmonious entry into the role. According to the scenario, an attractive girl at the time of the meeting with two friends should have turned 14 years old. But the professionalism of costumers and stylists was able to create an external resemblance to a young lady, and the virtuosity of Masha herself made all viewers believe in her carelessness.
The actor playing the role, which later went to Evgeny Tsyganov, had a noticeable mole on his cheek. Therefore, in order to resemble the first series, make-up artists constantly had to draw this mark to a famous actor.
One of the central images was the prominent politician of the time, Lavrenty Beria. Vyacheslav Grishechkin fell to fulfill the role of Stalin's right hand. For him, "Red Mountains" was the fifth film in which he played the people's commissar.
The series got its name thanks to the famous painting "Red Mountains. Santa Fe." The director decided to use this technique because, according to the script, the bandits hid their infinite wealth exactly where the famous expedition of the talented artist in reality once passed.
Truth of the life
After the series was released, the director and screenwriter more than once openly talked about their attitude to the events of the film. They tried to reflect the most neutral attitude to all characters equally. The creators believe that the audience themselves should give an assessment to people who are forced to withstand the many difficulties of that time.
Someone will not be able to understand the excessive correctness and devotion to the dubious ideals by Ilya, and someone will try to find a justification for the ambiguous actions of Arkady. In fact, the guy remained faithful to his homeland - that distant royal country in which he was happy, but the changes deprived him of this opportunity.
The result was a largely real story of that difficult time of rapid change, imaginary ideals and difficult life situations. And only the audience themselves will be able to assess the life position of two such different, and at the same time equally unhappy and loyal guys who have been dreaming of love, peace and the opportunity to constantly be with family people all their lives.
Real tragedy
Unfortunately, while working on the series, there were some tragic accidents. One of the leading actors Katerina Molochnaya miraculously survived after she was carried by a horse. Only the instinct of self-preservation and a miracle helped the woman stop the animal a few meters from the cliff.
But the fate of the girl working as a barmaid for the entire team of filmmakers was more tragic. She died in an accident in the midst of working on a film. And although none of the brigade was involved in the tragedy, according to the actors, the feeling of pain from the loss of a young and attractive employee haunted them constantly.

Some viewers discussed manner, presentation and images. Others were heatedly debating about excessive pathos and artistic exaggeration while recreating real events of the past tense.
