Ekaterina Malysheva, whose photos are presented in this article, was born in January 1987 in Chelyabinsk. From an early age, the girl strove to go in for sports, so her parents approved a visit to the speed skating section, where the talent of the future participant in the Olympic Games was fully revealed in the sprint all-around.
From the junior age, Ekaterina Malysheva was distinguished by a very serious attitude to the training process. Together with perseverance and talent, this began to bring the first sporting success.
The beginning of a sports career
At the 2004 World Junior Championships, the 17-year-old Russian speed skater becomes fifth, and a year later, the eighth. In 2006, she defeated all her peers at the Russian Championship in classical all-around.
Before the Olympics in Turin, 18-year-old Yekaterina Malysheva falls into the main national team. Then the athlete for the first time performs at the World Cup stage, I demonstrate excellent results for her age. Malysheva was even on the list of candidates for a trip to Turin, but the coaches did not dare to exhibit a young and inexperienced speed skater.
Goal - Vancouver
Failing to attend the Turin Olympics, Malysheva began serious preparations for the next Games. She actively performs at the stages of the World Cup in three distances at once: 1500, 1000 and 500 meters. Catherine also took part for the first time in the European Championship, where she got into the top twenty athletes. But the highest achievement this year was bronze in the non-national sprint championship.
The following season, Ekaterina Malysheva made her debut at the World Cup, where she became the eighteenth in the sprint. Among the achievements of the athlete, it should be noted eleventh place in the 100 meters at the World Cup stage, as well as a bronze medal of the Russian championship at a distance of 500 meters.
Malysheva spent the pre-Olympic season very actively. She again became the third in the championship of Russia at half a kilometer distance. At the world championship, the athlete again took the eighteenth place, and in the European championship - the fifteenth.
The Olympic season was quite good for Ekaterina Malysheva. She became a two-time winner of the Russian championship, and also took fifth place in the sprint at the world championship.
Ekaterina Malysheva went to Vancouver with the hope to compete for the Olympics medals. But, unfortunately, the competition was unsuccessful for her. Malysheva took 24th place at a 500-meter distance, and 27th at a kilometer distance.
Forced break and home Olympics
In the post-Olympic season, Yekaterina Malysheva again won the silver medal of the Russian Championship at the crown 500-meter distance for her. However, due to her long-standing illness - lymphadenitis - the athlete almost had to end her career.
After a year-long break, Malysheva resumes her performances at the stages of the World Cup and again becomes a two-time winner of the Russian championship. She was supposed to perform at the world championship, but missed him due to a head injury.
Malysheva was preparing very hard for the home Olympics. She again became second in the 500-meter championship of Russia. In Sochi, Catherine also performed at her crown distance. Unfortunately, the Russian speed skater failed to compete for medals - she took seventeenth place.
Despite the tight schedule of training and performances, Ekaterina Malysheva was able to graduate from the Ural University of Physical Culture.
The athlete is not going to leave speed skating yet. Among her plans is to participate in the 2018 Olympics in Pyongyang.
