Great granddaughter of great grandfather - this is how you can describe the model and actress Margot Hemingway. Despite the famous surname, one can say about a woman that she achieved fame on her own.
Named after the wine
Margot Hemingway is the middle of the daughters of Jack, the son of a famous writer. The girl received a name in honor of the wine beloved by her parents - Chateau Margot. She was born February 16, 1954 in Portland (Oregon). Getting older, the girl changed her name in the documents, leaving only Margot Louise Hemingway (1954-1996). This is not to say that she grew up in parental love and tenderness. From a young age, she was left on her own and had a fighting character, which was tempered due to health problems - the girl suffered from epilepsy, panic attacks and dyslexia. By the way, the last illness caused Margo not to read the books of her famous grandfather. Later bulimia and alcoholism added to existing health problems.

Parents could not cope with the education of their daughter and sent her to the famous grandfather in Ketchum (Idaho). Tough discipline and friendly conversations allowed us to temporarily get rid of addictions and acquire new, more useful ones. For example, Margot loved walking in the fresh air, fishing and could easily make a fire. Such a good attitude could not go unnoticed, and the girl zealously cherished the memory of her grandfather and defended her by any means. Once Francoise Sagan called Hemingway a “third-rate writer” and was immediately beaten by his granddaughter. After that, the French writer did not dare to say anything bad about him.
Business trip to New York
Margo was not yet 17 years old when she got a job as a model in a PR company. Later this skill came in handy for the girl - during a business trip to New York, she met Errol Watson with her father. Despite the fact that there was a difference of 14 years between them, both claimed that it was mutual love. To prove their words, the couple soon legalized the relationship (1978).

Margo began her career in the modeling business. In an interview, she called her husband Pygmalion, who blinded a real lady from a simpleton. But an important role in the professional development of Margot was played by Zachary Selig, a mutual friend of Watson and Margot, who introduced her to Vogue editor Francis Stein and one of the founders of Revlon, John Revson. The family happiness of Margot and Watson did not last long - the couple divorced, and in 1979 the model married Bernard Fucher (Foucher), a film director from Venezuela. But here, Margo did not find happiness - in 1985, the couple divorced due to disagreements in the relationship.
A happy marriage can only be called with Stuart Sundulin, the last spouse of the famous model. He was a businessman. The couple met on a blind date through mutual friends.
Face of america
Margo Hemingway understood that she was very beautiful - the owner of blond hair, high growth (183 cm) and clear facial features could not go unnoticed by the sharks of the modeling business. A year after the photos of Margot appeared on the covers of Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Faberge, one of the famous cosmetic companies invited her to advertise her new fragrance - Babe. For this work, for the first time in the history of the modeling business, the supermodel received $ 1 million. Time magazine could not pass by such an event and instantly published a photo of the girl on the cover of the June issue in 1975, calling her "America's most coveted model." The last successful work of Margot as a model can be called shooting in “Playboy”. It took place in 1990.
Films and critics
They say that a talented person is talented in everything. Apparently, this statement was not about Margot Hemingway, whose films did not receive wide recognition after she, having achieved fame and recognition in the modeling business, decided to try her hand at cinema. Margot's debut role took place in the film “Lipstick”, where she played together with her younger sister. The film was produced by Dino de Laurentis. The picture did not become successful - critics called the woman’s game bad. But this did not stop her, and she played in the films:
- "The killer fish";
- "They call me Bruce";
- "Over the Brooklyn Bridge";
- "Mass in B minor";
- "Secrets of a woman";
- "Caches of the soul" (1 and 2);
- "Bad love";
- "Deadly rivals";
- "Double obsession";
- "Cover the tracks";
- "Dangerous cargo."
Each release of the film was accompanied by criticism, which reached open insults. It was a blow to the pride of the actress, and she resorted to the use of alcohol and drugs. In general, as an actress, a woman played about 20 roles - both main and episodic.
Down to the abyss
In addition to health problems, Margot started having problems with alcohol and drugs. After the girl began to work as a model and actress, she tried to stifle each of her failures with their help. After a divorce from Bernard Fucher, Margot leaves for Austria, where he breaks his leg at a ski resort. During rehabilitation, she recovers by 30 kg, which leads to the failure of contracts with modeling agencies. Bulimia, from which a woman suffered as a young woman, again makes itself felt. The family sends her for compulsory treatment to one of the best centers - California Betty Ford Center (1987). After returning from there, the woman tries to return to normal life - she marries Stuart Sundulin, begins yoga and painting classes, goes to cooking classes and leads an active social life.
Waiting for a miracle
Margo, despite many health problems and the psyche, tried all her life to help others. For example, from adolescence, she promoted in society the idea that people with epilepsy have the same rights and opportunities as physically healthy, and can achieve great heights. Being married to Bernard Fucher, she and her husband planned to make a documentary about the life of grandfather. But the woman’s passion for Buddhism, the magic of the American Indians and meeting chiropractors who promised her miraculous healing from all problems did not allow the project to move beyond the plan. Under the influence of new friends, she leaves for India. But instead of finding peace of mind, she returns from there with another depression.
Death alone
Margot Hemingway was found dead in her studio apartment in July 1996, a few days after her death. The alarm was sounded by the woman’s girlfriend - the model did not answer the calls. The official version of the cause of death of Margot Hemingway was suicide - a woman drank too much dose of sleeping pills, incompatible with life. Moreover, she is not the first in the Hemingway family who decided to put an end to this in her life history - her great-grandfather Clarence, grandfather Ernest, his brother Lawrence did it before her.
Later in an interview, the younger sister Margot Mariel noted that it was not suicide - the model increased the dose of drugs from epileptic seizures (phenobarbital) from time to time and once accidentally drank the dose, which caused death. But, given that shortly before her death, Margo noted in a television interview that suicide is her only way out, Mariel hardly believes in the words. The woman was cremated, and the ashes buried in the family cemetery in Ketchum.
The granddaughter of Hemingway Margo became no less great than her grandfather, and, unfortunately, repeated his sad fate ...
