At the same time, a huge plus of the comedy is that it can be watched more than once, each time the viewer still laughs at funny episodes and sympathizes with the heroes who find themselves in ridiculous situations . Perhaps the success of the film lies in the professionalism of its creators?
Indeed, the film crew picked up a wonderful one. The legendary Soviet actors ("The Hussar Ballad") are known to everyone, the director Eldar Ryazanov also needs no introduction, all his works in cinema are still at the top of the rating. A picture was created based on the play "Once Upon a Time" by A. Gladkov in 1962. Immediately after the premiere, she gained immense popularity, and the actors (The Hussar Ballad) earned even greater appreciation from the grateful audience.
Short movie description
The events of the film unfold in 1812. Retired Major Azarov at his estate arranges a masquerade ball. On the same day, he wants to introduce his niece Shurochka to her fiance, Lieutenant Rzhevsky. In those days, it was not surprising that the couple was engaged in absentia, and the bride and groom did not see each other even once.
The pretty girl was not against the handsome groom, but it so happened that she changed her mind. The fact is that the main character was brought up by two severe war veteran soldiers. Uncle is a retired major, and his batman Ivan completely replaced the nanny for the girl. As a result, Shurochka liked to ride a horse, control weapons and did not like to sit at needlework and gossip with young ladies from neighboring estates.
Having decided to surprise her uncle and all the guests, the girl comes to the masquerade in a cornet costume. It was at this moment that Rzhevsky met her and tried to find out from the imaginary cousin of his bride how stupid and limited the girl was. Shurochka, introducing herself to Dmitry Cousin Azarova, decided to play the groom. She was indignant at the way he talked about his upcoming marriage and his future wife.

Next, the lieutenant is waiting for a meeting with the same Shurochka, only dressed already in a ball gown. The girl with might and main depicts a provincial fool. Rzhevsky is burning with one desire - to leave the estate as soon as possible and forget about getting married. At this moment, the messenger brings the news of the beginning of the war with the French. The ball was stopped, all the military rushed to the location of their units. The main character cannot stand aside from World War II and, having changed all in the same cornet costume, secretly from her uncle goes to fight with the invaders. Faithful uncle Ivan goes with his pupil as an orderly. Very soon, Shurochka will meet with Lieutenant Rzhevsky, and she will understand that she cannot live without him.

Main actors (“Hussar Ballad”): Larisa Golubkina and Yuri Yakovlev
The main role was played by a student of GITIS, who had absolutely no such experience in filming, which her film partner Yuri Yakovlev could already boast of. Larisa Golubkina was sweet and feminine, the director immediately saw Shurochka Azarova in her. The student went in for sports, confidently felt herself riding a horse in a saddle, only she was very afraid of heights. In one of the scenes, the actress even twisted her leg, jumping from the balcony, the injury remained for life.
The actors (“The Hussar Ballad”) were surprised by Ryazanov’s choice, because such actresses as Alisa Freindlikh, Svetlana Nemolyaeva, Lyudmila Gurchenko auditioned for the main female role, and the director approved the young and unknown to Golubkin. Larisa did the job, although skeptics claimed that she did not look like a boy. For her, the role of Shurochka became a "calling card" and gave her a great start in theater and cinema.
It is now impossible to imagine that the role of lieutenant Rzhevsky was played not by Yuri Yakovlev, but by Vyacheslav Tikhonov or Sergey Yursky (these actors were auditioned for the role of Dmitry). The director did not regret his choice, and the actors of the film “Hussar Ballad” were happy to work on the same set with the talented Yakovlev. Although at first Yuri refused to shoot, more than one work associated with the director of the actor, and each new film moved Yakovlev along the ladder of glory to the very top.
Actors and supporting roles
The film “Hussar Ballad” turned out to be very funny and at the same time sincere. Actors and roles are perfectly matched, thanks to which the creators of the picture managed to convey to the audience the spirit of Russian patriotism and let them feel the breath of romance and the power of love.
The work of supporting actors is also very important. According to the director, it was difficult for everyone on the set, and the great success was that after the completion of the work everyone remained intact. Horse racing, real weapons, sabers could be safely classified as rarities - this is what artists had to face.
The role of uncle Ivan went to N. Kryuchkov, his participation in any shootings did not go unnoticed. Batman from this talented actor came out very convincing. His concern for his pupil could not help but touch the heart.
The role of Kutuzov, to the surprise of everyone, went to comedian I. Ilyinsky. Ekaterina Furtseva herself protested against the commander playing Ilyinsky. The director found a way out of the situation. He shot one scene that was supposed to take place during a snowy winter, but the end of spring was already on the street. Therefore, it was already impossible to retake Kutuzov’s passage in front of the troops amid snows. So, in spite of everything, Ilyinsky for a while became a real great commander.
