Why is the American television series, nicknamed “Supernaturals” (tracing paper from the English name Supernatural), so popular among Russian-speaking fans? It would seem that there are many other series where good fights evil and brilliantly wins, where mysticism jumps literally from behind every bush, why does this project continue to attract new fans? The answer is very simple - heroes add incredible charisma to history. The “supernatural” is built as a kind of “road story”: two brothers travel, saving the world from all kinds of evil spirits along the way and getting into dangerous adventures. As events unfold, angels, demons, and even God himself are included in the plot. However, a brief description does not explain why the film turned out so fascinating.
The protagonists of the "Supernatural"
From the very first series, the viewer is introduced to the main characters, their story and, in fact, the plot of the plot. Sam Winchester was still a baby when, right above his crib, his mother died, pinned to the ceiling by some kind of mystical power. By a miracle, his father, John Winchester, entered the room and managed to save the baby - he handed it to his eldest son, Dean, and ordered him to run outside. But he failed to save his wife.
In the first season, the brothers are almost the only leading characters. “Supernatural” is a series of complex structure, John Winchester appears only at the end of the first season, and he can be added to the list of the main characters of the second season. So is Bobby Singer, a family friend, an elderly connoisseur of all evil spirits, wanders from series to series. We can safely say that there are the main characters of the entire series, and the main characters of the season are added to them.
Dean Winchester
The charismatic Jensen Ackles, who played the eldest of the brothers, quickly became a favorite of the spectators. Beautiful, courageous, strong, with a wonderful appetite and a peculiar sense of humor - this guy does not always know what to do in a difficult situation, but he always acts. Perhaps he does stupid things, risks himself excessively, but this is an example of fidelity and devotion to the family.
The special appeal of the image of Dean Winchester is that it is not perfect. He is the same as ordinary people: he makes mistakes, makes nonsense, jokes unsuccessfully, sometimes champs while eating and from time to time switches to the side of evil. It seems that really good characters should not do this. “Supernatural” is what attracts you, the characters of this series are not glossy images, they are alive and real.
Sam Winchester
If half of the spectators go crazy over Dean Winchester, then the second half prefers Sam, the younger brother, played by Jared Padalecki. An ambiguous character, which is also difficult to call positive. It seems that Sam Winchester is a kind of opposite of his brother, and he has been trying to prove this almost throughout the film. First of all, to myself.
Sam is reasonable, balanced and logical, sometimes it even seems that he will help smooth out all the consequences of the impulsive actions of his older brother. It is he who checks everything with logic and universal morality, rebels against the orders of his father and condemns Dean, who is used to following orders without discussing their correctness. At the same time, Sam makes far more global mistakes that put the whole world on the brink of death - and goodies do not.
“Supernatural” illustrates well-known wisdom: the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and in this case the proverb is literally interpreted.
Castiel
The first angel who came to the aid of the Winchesters brothers took Dean directly from hell, literally pulled out, leaving a burn in the form of a five. The role of Castiel was played by Misha Collins, and only in some episodes the usual human emotions illuminate the face of an angel. It looks pretty funny, because Collins is actually an ironic person with a lively sense of humor. It was probably difficult for him to maintain an unemotional expression on his face over so many episodes, but he coped well with the role.
Castiel is a very atypical angel. He doubts that he is contrary to the dogmas that other angels are subject to, he learns to make decisions and bear responsibility for them. This is difficult, but Castiel often takes the side of the losing side, when the Winchesters are at a disadvantage and confront the whole world, he tries to help. Castiel has a huge number of tests and tests for strength, he also puts the world on the brink of death and is trying to fix it. In the series "Supernatural", the characters are constantly faced with the problem of choice: to believe the written rules and their own eyes, or to do the right thing.
Own or strangers?
All characters in the series can be very conditionally divided into positive and negative, they constantly drift from one camp to another. For example, Crowley, the king of hell - he must be an antagonist, and he is really bad. The demon king should not be good, but nothing human is alien to him: he watches old sentimental films, from time to time helps the Winchesters and just as easily substitutes them.
One of the most charismatic and unexpected characters is Death, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. A calm and stylish old man who loves fast food and from time to time makes adjustments to his own rules.
In the television series "Supernatural," the names of the heroes can be counted endlessly, and not all of them can be unequivocally ranked as antagonists. The exception is perhaps the absolute centers of evil, for example Abaddon, the demoness Meg or the angel Zachariah.
The secret to the popularity of the television series
Even if Lucifer looks like a charming character with his own truth, then any viewer can think about life. The heroes of the series “Supernatural” appear to be not an unattainable ideal, to which it is useless to strive, on the contrary. They set an example of resilience - if the Winchester brothers are capable of stupidity, then any ordinary person on this side of the screen should not be killed and execute himself only because he was a little stupid. At least, our actions do not plunge the whole world into another Apocalypse. But you can follow their example, do not give up and do not indulge in reflection, but act and correct what you have done, not letting things go by themselves.
“Supernatural” is not a moralizing story, it is a fascinating excursion into the world of urban legends, folk beliefs and traditions, religious dogmas and universal values. Many viewers sincerely believe that the “Supernaturals” made them better and stronger, helped to overcome difficulties. For the series, this is the best praise.
