Comedy sitcoms have long been a part of American television. Since the release of the series âFriendsâ, which is still considered the founder of this direction, many other, more or less successful projects have come out. In their broadcast networks, every self-respecting channel must include a comedy series, launching it at the best time for showing. In 2011, ABC unveiled the Happy End to the public, a 22-minute sitcom telling about the lives of several couples in love.
Happy start
Production of pilot series started back in January 2010. The first episode was written by debutant David Casp. ABC hired directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who had previously directed many television series, and secured financial support from Sony Pictures. The success of the first series would give a green light to all further production. And the channel took up its main task: he urgently needed those without whom the show could not start - the actors. âHappy Endingâ was a comedic creation, because the main actors had to correspond to the created images.
The casting, which began in February, immediately determined who could be cast in the lead roles. When the cast was formed, the film âHappy Endâ could be launched. It is noteworthy that he started on the air not from the beginning of the new television season, but from its middle.
A dramatic start in a comedic hue
The central storyline is Dave and Alex, who, after a long romantic relationship and desire to go down the aisle, decide to leave. The company of friends does not know how to react to this: they are put in an uncomfortable position, because they must now choose with whom to maintain communication. The joint decision of Dave and Alex to remain friends does not simplify the issue, but only leads to new difficulties.
The constant awkward situations in which the heroes fell carried a dramatic context. At the same time, they were served to the audience in many comic scenes, in accordance with the chosen genre. Since the first episodes were shown, it was too early to talk about success. But you can. So did in their interviews those who plunged headlong into the filming process - the actors. âHappy Endâ was gaining momentum, but the show was waiting for new tests.
Unlucky mess
The end of the first season spoke about the extension of the show for the second season. It was presented to the audience in the same, 2011. The second part of the series was at the same level according to the results of evaluations and reviews, and ABC, without thinking twice, decides to launch the third season.
Alas, he was the last. In search of attracting a viewer audience, the channel began to rearrange episodes that did not appear out of order. If the leaders did not see this as a complication, then such a rearrangement slightly embarrassed the fans. Throughout the series, the channel has repeatedly shown old episodes or organized a marathon from the first season. This is a fairly common move, not only in America. And used, of course, for the same purpose - to attract an audience. Full episodes are available on several American online sites.
Critical present
The series was often criticized, despite the success that both the creators and the actors felt. âHappy Endâ due to its similarity with many other series has undergone a tough comparison with the sitcoms âPerfect Couplesâ, âCrazy Loveâ, âTraffic Lightâ, âSex for Friendshipâ. All of them were launched in the 2010-2011 season, and after the first two successfully closed. This indicated that the topic of married couples or friendships did not interest the audience, moreover, the audience was saturated with them. The comparison also affected Friends. It was the first ever sitcom about six friends, New Yorkers, who managed to hold out for ten years, and it is unlikely that there would be a similar project that could surpass it.
Nevertheless, if you do not take the pilot episodes, which only rocked the series, âHappy Endâ was warmly received in the middle of its path. Many noted a significant improvement, however, leading to a dead end in plot development.
Characters and actors. âHappy Endâ is the happy part of a career
The first creators sought was Brad William, a henpecked husband who did not refuse his wife Jane. Damon Wayans, Jr., who was familiar to the audience in the movie âCops in the Deep Reserveâ, was ideally suited here. After the âHappy Endâ, he joined the TV series âNew Girlâ, and also appeared in a number of passing works. His last roles are an atypical policeman from Cops Type and voice acting in Heroes City.
The lonely and desperate Penny Harz went to actress Casey Wilson, a friend of Killer and Bride's War. In 2014, she played in the disappearing Oscar-winning thriller by David Fincher.
To play the role of neighbor and student friend of Max Bloom, Adam Palli was invited, who successfully alternates his appearance in films and on television, and Jane was given the key image of annoying constant control by Eliza Coop. Before that, she played in such series as âWho is Samantha?â, âDear Doctorâ, âClassmatesâ. Dave and Alex, who became the starting point of the plot, embodied Zachariah Knighton and Elisha Cuthbert.
Happy future
Despite the short existence, the show found its fans and received wide acclaim. This applies to everyone without exception. The characters remained in the audience's memory with vivid, memorable images, as well as those who embodied them. And the actors of the series âHappy Endingâ got the opportunity to build their career further.
