Richard Samuel Attenborough was born on August 29, 1923 in the English city of Cambridge. His father, Frederick Attenborough, was an academician. The actor’s family was one of those who, even before the start of World War II, participated in the Kindertransport operation to save Jewish children. The Attenborough family took two girls - nine-year-old Helga and eleven-year-old Irena Bezhach.

Richard Attenborough studied at the same Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, which he headed after many years. In the winter of 1945, the actor married the English actress Sheila Sim.

In 1967, he was appointed commander of the order of the time of the British Empire, and less than ten years later he received the title of knight. In 1993 he was awarded the Baron title. From 1979 to this point, he did not act in films.

In addition, Richard Attenborough was vice president of the English football professional club Chelsea.

In 2004, Richard was overwhelmed with grief - during the Thai tsunami, his daughter Jane with her daughter and mother-in-law died.

The last years of his life, the actor was forced to move in a wheelchair due to a stroke. In the spring of 2013, he was transferred to a nursing home due to poor health. The actor died on August 24, 2014. He did not live a week before his birthday.
