Kirovsky factory, St. Petersburg. Products of the Kirov Plant

For over 200 years, the Kirov Plant (St. Petersburg) has been working for the good of Russia. Founded in April 1801 as a small iron foundry, today it has turned into a diversified industrial complex. Factory workers stood at the origins of the domestic tractor industry, starting in 1924 the mass production of tractors "Fordson Putilovets". In fact, this was the first mass production of energy-saturated wheeled tractors in the USSR. The company also traditionally specializes in the production of powerful turbines and military products.

The beginning of the way

Founded by Paul I in 1801, the St. Petersburg Iron Foundry from a small enterprise for the smelting of cannonballs eventually grew into one of the largest industries in the city on the Neva and all of Russia. Over the first 65 years of its existence, the future Kirovsky Zavod (St. Petersburg) has changed many names and owners, several times it actually went bankrupt.

The successful history of the enterprise began after its purchase by the industrialist N.I. Putilov in 1869. Here was installed one of the first Bessemer conveyors for the smelting of higher quality (compared to open-hearth) steel. Railroad rails were made from it. Over time, the assortment expanded: the plant produced passenger and freight cars, and after the death of Putilov (1880) - steam locomotives, ship’s tower guns, destroyers.

On the threshold of the 20th century

The history of Kirov can be proud of. St. Petersburg in the 20th century turned into the largest industrial center thanks in large part to the Putilovites. By 1900, the company was the third largest production company among all European engineering companies and the undisputed leader of Russia.

In addition to military and railway equipment, tool steel was smelted here, shells, excavators, crushers, cranes, dredgers, and excavators were manufactured. Own machine-tool production was developed. However, it was the Putilov Plant that became the epicenter of the 1905 revolution. Established in 1912, the Putilov Shipyard eventually became one of the domestic shipbuilding centers, now known as the Severnaya Verf.

By the beginning of 1917, 36,000 people worked at the Putilov factory. It was a close-knit team, tempered by the events of 1905-07. Like 12 years ago, it was the “Putilovites” who stirred up the empire - they became the locomotive of the February Revolution. The Bolsheviks took advantage of their victory, who subsequently nationalized the enterprise "for debts to the Russian Republic."

After the Civil War, St. Petersburg experienced an industrial boom. New manufactures were opened, the release of innovative products was mastered. The Putilov factory, renamed in 1922 the “Red Putilovets”, did not pass around the changes. The government made a bold decision to radically change the specialization of the enterprise, traditionally focused on railway equipment, the fleet and the release of ammunition.

In 1924, the plant mastered the mass production of Fordson Putilovets wheeled tractors, and later it was replaced by more advanced Universal wagon wheeled tractors. In the late 1930s, the name Kirovets first appeared on experimental caterpillar tractors . Their heir, the serial tractor KD-35, was produced in 1940-1950 at the Lipetsk and Minsk Tractor Plants. The current name "Kirovsky Zavod" (St. Petersburg was renamed Leningrad 01/26/1924), the company received December 17, 1934 after the death of a prominent statesman and favorite of the townspeople S. M. Kirov. During the Second World War, despite the blockade of Leningrad, the factory workers launched the production and repair of tanks and other military equipment. For heroic work, the enterprise (or rather, its employees) was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War.

From Fordson to Kirovets

On July 13, 1962, the first Kirovets K-700 came out of the factory’s shops, and it is from this date that the brand’s modern history begins. The first batch of tractors was sent for comprehensive tests in different regions of the country, so that in a year serial machines left the assembly line. The legendary K-700 was made until 1975. He was replaced by more advanced models - K-700A and K-701. They were destined to live on the assembly line for more than a quarter of a century and write many glorious pages in the history of the brand.

Along with the mass production of serial models, the plant constantly created innovative developments. Some of them remained single experimental and exhibition samples, but many were mass-produced. And today the products of the Kirov Plant (St. Petersburg) are in demand by the market. Modern energy-saturated tractors of the K-744P and K-9000 series have a wide range. They are distinguished by high power (300-428 hp for the K-744P series and up to 516 hp for the K-9000 series), versatility, a new level of comfort for tractor drivers, and the use of innovative technical solutions. “Kirovtsy” are able to work effectively in conditions that are beyond the reach of other brands of tractors in agriculture, construction and industrial facilities. In addition to powerful tractors, the company produces municipal vehicles, forklifts, packers and other products.

Over the years, Kirovets machinery has been at the forefront in the segments of powerful wheeled tractors, front-end loaders with a carrying capacity of 6 tons and special-purpose vehicles based on tractor modules.
