One of the most important influential projects "Breaking Bad" ended in September 2013 on a high note, having managed not only to keep the bar, but also to exceed expectations. It will become a measure of professionalism for actors and creators on TV for a long time, and the viewer will continue to search for series similar to Breaking Bad.
From a layman to a genius criminal
The basis of the creation of Vince Gilligan is the story of a simple person who lived a routine life, who was transformed under the force of circumstances into a brilliant criminal, surrounded by multi-layered walls of betrayal, lies, cunning, innate resourcefulness. This is an almost perfect series, rightfully elevated to the rank of a model for future generations of artisans, so it is not surprising that a lot of series similar to Breaking Bad appeared in big movies and on TV. Not all of them were able to get closer to the original design, as they are monophonic narratives without halftones.
“Based on real events”
Unlike many modern projects “based on real events”, two products - the series “Narco” (2015) and the film “Scam undercover” - turned out to be very reliable.
"Narco" received the approval of the son of the most infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escabar, whose rise and fall, in fact, is dedicated to this project. The action of the third season of the series was moved to Mexico, the production process began with a real tragedy. Looking for new locations, Carlos Munoz tragically died. He was found dead in his car with gunshot wounds. Law enforcement authorities did not find those responsible for the incident, the creators had only to strengthen the protection of the film crew. But the reliability of the project from this tragedy increased significantly.
The film "Scam Undercover" is based on the eponymous literary memoirs of Robert Mazur. This is a strong movie, successfully getting rid of inappropriate humor, but not falling into drama. Of course, there was a certain amount of moralizing, because the key character “scout” Mazur and his dummy bride manage to get sympathy for Escobar's confidant named Roberto Alcaino. But it is condemned unobtrusively, almost imperceptibly dotted. Due to the versatility of the range of relationships between the characters, this film and the series are similar to "Breaking Bad."
Flagship of the genre
When choosing a series similar to Breaking Bad, you should not ignore feature films, especially if the creators include such a meter of the modern film industry as David Fincher. The director seems to revive the dry prose of the literary source of the novel by Gillian Flynn. With his thriller "Disappeared" (2014), stuffed with a mass of unsolvable personal and social conflicts, David once again raises the bar of the genre. The viscous atmosphere of widespread suspicion, persecution, and helpless horror is so addictive that for a 145-minute tape, the viewer does not lose interest in what is happening. Experienced film fans will certainly find many parallels in the film, including the project "Breaking Bad". Not everyone may like similar series, but “Disappeared” is beyond competition.
