Amphibians, or amphibians, are unusual creatures that can live in water and on land. These include frogs and newts, there are even unique axolotls - evolving in a very special way. Amphibians (names) of Russia will be listed below. What are the main groups of amphibians worth knowing?
Newts
This squad is one of the most famous amphibians. Many names of amphibians are unfamiliar to ordinary people, but almost everyone knows the word "newt". It is a creature with a long body and tail, flattened on the sides. They can live both in water and on land, preferring places with lush vegetation. The color of the newt can be different and is determined by the habitat. Interestingly, in winter they fall asleep. As soon as the temperature returns to a comfortable level, they wake up and go to multiply, laying eggs at the leaves of aquatic plants. Another interesting feature is the ability to restore lost limbs and tail. All these amphibians, the names of which may be different - ordinary, comb, California, - have some common features. So, before the mating season, males have a special growth on their backs, and they prefer to eat newts with worms, crustaceans and larvae. They live in all countries with a temperate climate and lead a nocturnal lifestyle.
Salamander
These are amphibians , the names of which are not heard unless a person is completely indifferent to nature. They are present in the legends and myths of many nations, each receiving some unique features - immortality, the ability to survive on fire, poison fruit trees and products, rivers and people, turn into dragons ... In a word, every country has its own exciting stories about salamanders . In a sense, they are justified: these amphibians are really poisonous and can be dangerous for some species. For example, a dog that has eaten such an amphibian can get fatal poisoning. Salamander venom paralyzes the brain centers. It is produced by the parotid glands, which protects the amphibian from attack. It is not surprising that other names for amphibians are associated with tragic events much less often: the salamander is really more dangerous than most representatives of this class.
Frogs
Remembering what amphibians are, the names of this family cannot but be remembered. Frogs are tailless amphibians that existed in the time of dinosaurs. They have an amazing anatomy that allows them to live both in water and on land. The tadpole differs little from the fish fry, and the adult frog is a completely land animal. This metamorphosis also highlights the data of amphibians. Interestingly, frogs breathe with their mouth, skin and lungs. They have a universal circulatory system with two departments of the heart, working in water, and the left atrium, acting on land. They are most active at dusk, when it gets cool, but in very cold weather they seek shelter, and in winter they sink to the bottom in hibernation. The color of the frogs is determined by the habitat, this is distinguished by many amphibians. The names of these creatures differ: there are lake ones, and there are forest ones, but they have one thing in common - ultimate survival. That is what made them a successful object for scientific experiments, to which the monuments to frogs in Tokyo and Paris are devoted.

Worms
These are legless amphibians , the names of which almost no one has heard. However, the worms are very interesting. The annular folds on their skin resemble strips of large earthworms. Some have scales, others have eyes that shine through the skin, in a word, worms look very original. They live in the tropics of Africa, Asia and South America, preferring moist soil or anthills. Invertebrates, such as worms, are eaten. Land worms lay their eggs, and aquatic - live-bearing. They are protected from dangers by poisonous skin. Thus, we can say that worms are little-known amphibians, whose names and photos are difficult to forget, they are so unusual and even strange.
Toads
These are amphibians , the names and photos of which are familiar to most people. But at the same time, many do not distinguish them from frogs. Meanwhile, toads are a separate family with their own unique characteristics. There are desert species that are active only in the rainy season. Toads differ from frogs with shorter hind legs, which limit their jumping to twenty centimeters, dry skin with warts and the fact that they can be seen in water only during the breeding season. These amphibians feed on insects, mollusks and worms, therefore, contrary to stereotypes, they can be useful for humans, exterminating slugs in the garden. Toads are widespread across all continents; they are found only in Australia. A special desert species lives there, which has teeth and burrows in dry holes during dry periods, storing water in body cavities.
Axolotli
These are other amphibians, the names of which almost no one has heard. Meanwhile, it is a unique species that does not need to grow up. Axolotls are the larval form of an ambistoma, but for reproduction they do not need to pass into it. Neoteny is characteristic of them - maturity that occurs in childhood. Axolotl, living in comfortable conditions, may not age at all, but a change in the situation may lead to an ambitious one. The name is also interesting. Translated from Aztec, it means "water toy", which is ideal for the smiling face of this amphibian.
