Red blood cells are blood particles whose main task is to transfer oxygen in the blood to various organs of the human body. These bodies are made up of hemoglobin, which is red in color. These particles are also stained with it. One of the most important indicators when taking blood tests is the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (or ESR for short). An increase or decrease in its level indicates any disturbances in the body. How to lower or increase ESR in the blood?
What characterizes
the erythrocyte sedimentation rate to the blood, what does it indicate? This indicator indicates how quickly the blood splits, which is placed in a specialized capillary. Cleavage occurs in two layers: upper and lower. The first consists of red red blood cells, and the second is from transparent plasma. ESR measurement is carried out in millimeters per hour. The normal rate for representatives of the stronger sex is 1-10 mm / h, for the weak half of humanity - 2-15 mm / h.
If this number is below normal, then it is necessary to increase the ESR. The causes of non-compliance with established standards are most often diseases such as leukocytosis, hepatitis, DIC, hyperproteinemia, hyperbilirubinemia. It is worth noting that a reduced ESR is very rare. More often the opposite result occurs, that is, an increased level.
If, however, this indicator is underestimated, but there are no clinical symptoms that indicate diseases, then it is necessary to increase the ESR. How to do it?
Before starting treatment, it is recommended to re-analyze the ESR according to another, more complex and deep system. However, if after it the result also shows understated standards, then other measures should be taken to increase this indicator. In this case, treatment should always be prescribed by a doctor.
Also a deviation from the norm is an increased indicator. What can increase ESR, what could be the reason? First of all, this suggests that an inflammatory process develops in the body. Moreover, it can be either a common cold, flu, or more complex bronchitis, pneumonia, pyelonephritis, etc. It should be noted that the stronger the inflammation in the body, the more elevated ESR in the blood is observed.
However, not always a high indicator indicates any kind of inflammatory process. Other factors may also be the reasons for the increase in the sedimentation rate of blood particles: loss of protein in the urine, a change in the number of red blood cells, and much more. Possible disorders include diseases such as anemia, malignancies, heart attacks, frequent
blood transfusions , etc.
In women, increased ESR in the blood can be observed during menstruation, during pregnancy, as well as in some other physiological processes.
As soon as a person has an increase in the rate of erythrocyte cleavage, repeated tests should be performed immediately. If the result is the same, then examination and professional consultation of a doctor is already necessary.
