From birth to death, a person has to constantly learn in order to survive, to adapt to a changing reality, to find and know himself and reasonably live his life. The concept of lifelong education, training, and self-improvement is present in many philosophical and scientific works. It continues to be supplemented to this day.
Why is continuing education necessary? Yes, just in order not to slide into the existence of patterns and stereotypes in situations. After all, life is so diverse and multifaceted that stopping in one's own development is a real crime.
The main difference between humans and highly developed animals is their ability to be creative. The ability to express oneself through creative work and word, the ability to invent, rationalize and create led mankind away from animals conditioned by reflexes, whose vital activity is aimed at ensuring their bio survival and production of offspring.
People, thanks to the ability to learn and pass on their knowledge first by word of mouth, and then with the help of writing, have reached cosmic heights, penetrated the atom, learned how to treat terrible diseases, transformed the Earth, created many cultural monuments and works of art.
Knowledge is acquired starting from school, and in some cases even earlier. There are methods for teaching very small one and a half year old kids to read, math and languages. School education currently includes subjects that further help to obtain technical or humanitarian specialties. Continuing education can contribute to the comprehension of many sciences, systematize knowledge and put it into practice.
But it would be wrong to say that lifelong education is good and nothing but good. Evolving science and technological progress can reduce humanity again to the level of animal existence. There is a wonderful caricature of the evolutionary development of man from a monkey to a man of the information age and back to a monkey. This is not just a funny picture, it is a warning saying that labor made a man out of a monkey, and refusal to work will lead people to animal existence.
Many people understand this danger and try to counteract it to the best of their ability, at least in their families and in their immediate environment.
Well-known scientists and futurologists sound the alarm in all bells, publish articles and books, but the desire of mankind to increase their own well-being and comfort, the desire to easily pull a fish out of the pond is so great that the danger is ignored or seen far away. Most people are accustomed to relying on technology in all areas of life, so they will soon be unable to sew clothes without a machine, bake bread, build a house, get food and drink, raise offspring, etc.
Only continuous education, self-improvement and self-knowledge, coupled with spiritual quest, will be able to stop humanity near the abyss and prevent it from falling into it. But this should not be understood by units, but by millions. Parents are required to pay as much attention as possible not only to the mental and physical development of the children, but also to take care of their culture, creative realization and spiritual growth.
