The vacation season is approaching, which means it's time to think about getting a passport, if it has not been done before, or its validity is coming to an end. In the summer months, in order to submit or receive documents to the FMS, you will have to defend considerable queues. Even more unpleasant is the situation when you can’t do this on the first attempt, so it’s better to carefully prepare for a trip to the migration service. About what documents are necessary for issuing a passport, and will be discussed in the article.
The list of required papers varies slightly. It depends on two factors:
- validity period of the document (5 years - an old sample, 10 years - a new biometric passport) ;
- For an adult or a child a passport is issued .
For those who regularly travels abroad, especially to countries of the European Union, it is better to get a passport for a period of 10 years and not return to this issue for a sufficiently long period of time. The second advantage will be faster control at the airport, since in this case you do not need a manual set of data contained in the document.
Parents issuing a foreign passport for a child, especially a small one, can be advised on the old model. The first reason is a lower state duty. Well, the second - the baby’s appearance is changing rapidly, and he will soon be unrecognizable in the photo.
Documents required for a child’s passport (old model)
- 1 copy completed application form;
- 2 photos;
- birth certificate (for children under 14 years of age, a mark or an insert with proof of Russian citizenship is required);
- Russian passport of the child (for those over 14 years old);
- Russian passport of the parent / legal representative;
- Valid passport (if any).
In addition to the described set of documents, you must provide proof of payment of the fee, the amount of which is 300 rubles, if the child is less than 14 years old, and if his age has exceeded this mark - 1000 rubles.
Documents required for an adult passport (old model)
- 2 copies completed application form;
- 3 photos;
- Russian passport;
- for non-working citizens - a work book, if any;
- for those liable for military service - command permission issued in accordance with the procedure established in the Russian Federation;
- valid passport (if any);
- a document confirming the payment of state duty, the amount of which is 1000 rubles.
Photos attached to the questionnaire can be either color or black and white. They should be printed on matte paper, their size is 3.5 by 4.5 centimeters. Pictures of the applicant dressed in uniform in the photo are not accepted.
Documents required for a child’s passport (new sample)
- 1 copy completed application form;
- 1 photograph;
- birth certificate (for children under 14 years of age, a mark or an insert with proof of Russian citizenship is required);
- Russian passport of the child (for those over 14 years old);
- Russian passport of the parent / legal representative;
- Valid passport (if any).
The size of the fee for passports equipped with an electronic storage medium is 1200 rubles if the child is less than 14 years old, and if his age exceeds this mark - 2500 rubles.
Documents required for an adult passport (new sample)
- 2 copies completed application form;
- 2 photos (photo requirements are the same as for applying for an old passport);
- Russian passport;
- for non-working citizens - a work book, if any;
- for those liable for military service - command permission issued in accordance with the procedure established in the Russian Federation;

- a document confirming the payment of state duty, the amount of which is 2500 rubles.
When filling out the questionnaire, you do not need to put a signature in the box on the left, as this should be done in the presence of the FMS employee.
General requirements for applying for adults
The rules proposed below apply to the processing of all passports (new and old) received by the adult population.
The part of the questionnaire related to the applicant's labor activity is certified by his head (personnel department) at the current place of work.
For unemployed citizens, in the absence of a work book, information is recorded from his words, about which a corresponding note is made in the questionnaire.
