Subcutaneous injection - inject subcutaneously

Do you know what I will tell you, friends? It seems to me that recently more and more people are interested in medicine. Almost all of my friends are passionate about traditional and folk methods of treatment. I told my friend: "Everyone who communicates with you begins to become interested in business, and when you communicate with me, even you become interested in medicine." He replied that only I can talk so enthusiastically about how, for example, to do subcutaneous injections.

But you must admit that there really is something wonderful in medicine. If it were not for the regular subcutaneous injection of insulin, how many close people we would lose. My grandmother suffered from diabetes and, thank God, she lived a full and long life thanks to this injection.

It is possible that to be able to perform intramuscular injections is more important than knowing how a subcutaneous injection is performed, but after all, everything in life happens. At least any physician should have the skills to perform any varieties of this procedure.

And there are several types of injections. In particular:

  • intradermal injection sounds similar, but different from subcutaneous.
  • The most common injections are intramuscular. This is an injection in the buttock.
  • Intravenous injection - an injection into a vein.
  • Intraarterial.

There are even rectal injections. Yes, yes, they are made with an enema. There are intraosseous injections.

Today we are mainly interested in subcutaneous injection and the technique for its implementation. An example with insulin was given above. It is just injected subcutaneously. At the same time, diabetics do an excellent job themselves, although I gave my grandmother several times an injection of insulin subcutaneously. In our family everyone knows how to give injections even intravenously. My parents are doctors, I am a medical assistant, and the rest have learned from me when I was ill.

By the way, a subcutaneous injection of a special drug is placed before the operation. With its help, the patient is prepared for surgery. Thus, the patientโ€™s anxiety decreases and the effect of anesthesia intensifies. This preparation is called premedication.

Subcutaneous injection has a more rapid effect of the drug than its oral administration. Such injections are made in the subcutaneous fat fold. This place has excellent blood supply. It is easy to guess that the medicine introduced under the skin (subcutaneous injection) penetrates the blood faster.

Subcutaneous Injection Technique

The time has come to describe the sequential performance of subcutaneous injections.

The most suitable places for injections under the skin are:

  • outer shoulder surface
  • outer thigh (front),
  • abdominal wall.

In the above areas, it is easiest to fold the skin, and the risk of damage to the nerves and blood vessels is minimal.

In preparation for subcutaneous injection, the following actions are performed

  • Hands are thoroughly washed and gloves put on. At home, you can do without them.
  • The injection site is treated with alcohol using a cotton swab.
  • Another cotton ball moistened with alcohol is inserted under the little finger of a free hand.
  • A syringe with a pre-selected drug is taken in the hand.

Classically, such an injection is performed in the area of โ€‹โ€‹the outer surface of the shoulder.

  • With your free hand, you need to fold the skin.
  • The needle is inserted into the crease under the skin at an angle of 45ยบ to a depth greater than half the length of the needle.
  • Slowly, slowly, by pressing the piston with the thumb, the drug is injected under the skin.
  • A cotton ball moistened with alcohol, which is already under the index finger, presses in the place where the needle was inserted and at the same time the syringe with the needle is pulled out from under the skin.
  • The same ball wipes the injection site.

Thatโ€™s all wisdom. Now you know how to do subcutaneous injections. It's simple, isn't it?

hint

If a small amount of air is noticed in the syringe, then this vial is left in the syringe along with the rest of the drug.
