With the onset of summer, school studies end, and happy children receive three months of free time. But this does not mean at all that you can forget about studying until the first of September. Every year for summer holidays, students are given a list of literature, and 9th grade is no exception.
9th grade reading
9th grade is considered the final stage of primary school. After its completion, some of the children continue to study at school, while another leaves to continue their education in special educational institutions.
The list of 9th grade literature includes many large and serious works by Russian and foreign authors. It is simply impossible to read and remember all the necessary volume during the study time. Therefore, teachers always give students a list of summer literature for grade 9.
In the 9th grade, at the lessons of literature, they study the works of Russian poets and prose writers of the 19th-20th centuries and foreign writers.
Most of the literature required to be read was written by Russian writers in the 19th century. This is due to the fact that it was during this period that many works were created that became classics not only in Russia but also abroad. After all, it was at this time that Pushkin, Lermontov, Chekhov, Turgenev and many others wrote their imperishable creations.
Required Reading
The summer list of literature for the 9th grade includes, first of all, many works of Russian classic writers. All works presented for compulsory reading are understood in lessons. Many of them write essays.
The list of literature works for grade 9 includes many works by Russian and foreign classics. Among them, one can note A.S. Pushkin and his famous novel in poems “Eugene Onegin”, A. S. Griboedov with his comedy “Woe from Wit”, A. N. Radishchev - “A Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow”, M. Y. Lermontov with the novel “Hero of our time”, N. V. Gogol and his great and unfinished “Dead Souls”.
“Eugene Onegin” is one of the most famous works of A. S. Pushkin, on which the opera was even staged. As you study this novel in verse, you can include excerpts from the opera in the classroom to better understand the meaning.
You can even keep a reader's diary for these works, where you can briefly describe the plot, list the main characters, and give them characteristics. The diary will help to better remember what has been read and to facilitate the writing of essays and tests in the future.
You will also have to read the works of A. N. Ostrovsky, L. N. Tolstoy, F. M. Dostoevsky, I. S. Turgenev, M. A. Bulgakov, M. A. Sholokhov. The list of 9th grade literature also includes the stories of A.P. Chekhov and A.I. Kuprin.
Based on Bulgakov’s work “Dog’s Heart”, the film of the same name was shot. In literature lessons, you can set aside time and watch it. After viewing it is advisable to discuss what they saw, compare the book and the film.
A. I. Solzhenitsyn with the story “ Matryonin Dvor” and I. A. Bunin - “Dark Alleys” are required to read in the 9th grade program .
The foreign literature of the school curriculum is represented by the works of W. Shakespeare, D. Salinger, E. Hemingway and J. B. Moliere.
For extracurricular reading
The above authors and works are given for compulsory reading, but acquaintance with Russian and foreign literature is not limited to this list. To better get acquainted with the works of the great classics, it is worth taking the time and reading additional books. Each of them goes to the pupil's knowledge box, enriching him.
Extracurricular reading helps to broaden one's horizons, develops knowledge of the oral and written language, and replenishes the vocabulary. Therefore, before the 9th grade, the list of literature can be replenished with such works as Lev Tolstoy's Sevastopol Stories, Fatal Eggs and Turbin's Days by M. A. Bulgakov.
Also, do not forget about the poems by A. S. Pushkin, N. A. Nekrasov, K. N. Batyushkov, A. A. Akhmatova, A. A. Blok, S. A. Yesenin, M. I. Tsvetaeva and B V. Mayakovsky. Some works will have to be learned by heart, so it will be prudent to do this in advance and save valuable time in the school year.
Foreign literature for additional reading
Extracurricular readings are often arranged in literature classes, offering students the choice to read any works. Then they can ask essays or discuss what they read in the classroom. Foreign literature is rich in great works, so do not forget about it.
Before grade 9, the literature for reading for the summer can be replenished with the works of V. Hugo, W. Shakespeare, O. Balzac and R. Bach.
Do I need to read books in the summer
It seems to many that it is not worth giving assignments for the summer, and in such a volume. It would seem that in summer you need to relax from school, why else read? In fact, assignments for the summer are not bullying by teachers, but rather, help in school. The list of works that must be mastered for grade 9 is very long, and it’s very, very difficult to read all this only in the time allotted for study.
Therefore, in order not to sit at night over books in the school year, trying to overpower the work in one night, one must read in the summer.
How to have time to read everything given and not to forget
To read all the given books, it is worth making a daily routine and including reading in it as an obligatory paragraph. It can be allocated a couple of hours a day. It is advisable to make notes with a pencil in a book, leave bookmarks, noting such important points as the characteristics of the main characters, the author’s attitude to the hero of the work. Such notes will help save time in the future and quickly recall the contents of the book.
Parents can help children with this. But do not tightly control the reading, turning it into a forced. This should give schoolchildren pleasure, because only then will there be any sense. From time to time, you can ask a teenager what kind of book he is reading now and what he plans to read further. Then ask him to briefly retell the plot, ask about his opinion on the work, whether he liked the book or not. This way of checking will help the student to better understand and remember what he read and will turn reading into an exciting game.
Conclusion
Reading is a great gift that is given only to people. With it, you can mentally move to the distant past, learn about the life of various people, plunge into the whirlpool of events. Reading helps develop imagination, expands vocabulary, and replenishes the store of knowledge.
Therefore, do not take this as an unpleasant duty. In any case, you will still have to read the required literature. So why not take reading in the summer as fun?
