Can cefazolin be used in children?

Cefazolin belongs to the group of antibacterial antimicrobial agents. The general name of the group is cephalosporins.

This drug is widely used to treat diseases such as pneumonia, obstructive bronchitis, peritonitis, osteomelitis. In addition, the use of this drug in the treatment of infections of the genitourinary system and skin diseases is quite effective.

The use of cefazolin in pediatrics is quite common. Currently, many hospitals give injections with the drug "Cefazolin" to children who entered the infectious diseases wards with various diseases.

This drug is believed to be relatively non-toxic with overall high efficacy. However, according to the contraindications indicated in the instructions, if your child has not reached a month of age, the use of the drug is unacceptable. Therefore, cefazolin for children (injections) is prescribed after the neonatal period.

It is allowed to use the drug both intravenously and intramuscularly. If you are in a hospital, the attending physician himself will prescribe you a dosage and medicine for diluting the drug. In the case when you carry out the treatment at home, decide how you will introduce cefozalin into the body - intravenously or by injection. The type of agent depends on this, than cefazolin is bred.

If you are going to use the drug intravenously, you can dilute the drug only with special water for injection. In the event that you are going to make injections in the buttock, dilute the drug with either water for injection, or novocaine, or lidocaine.

Children's therapy should be very careful. Injections are done strictly under the supervision of a doctor, because allergic reactions to the drug are not excluded. Experts advise against using novocaine for dilution, and if a drug such as cefazolin is prescribed, it is better for children to dilute it with either lidocaine or water for injection.

Possessing certain side effects, such as allergies, nausea, vomiting, dysbiosis, it is necessary to observe the reaction for several hours, especially when using an antibiotic such as cefazolin, for children.

The effect of this drug is quite long, approximately 8 hours after administration. It is displayed almost unchanged through the excretory system of the body.

In order to protect the intestinal flora from changes associated with the use of an antibacterial drug, it is recommended to start a course of taking medicines containing lactobacilli simultaneously with therapy. With the introduction of the drug "Cefazolin", children can be offered to the child (or toddlers, if several people are sick), such a medicine as bifiform, made especially for them and having a sweet taste, or acipol.

Many are interested in the question of whether cefazolin is produced in tablets. Unfortunately, this medicine is available only in powder intended for injection. But there are other medicinal groups of cephalosporins that can be found in the pharmacy network in tablet form. For example, cephalexin, used in the fight against staphylococci and streptococci. It is widely used in the treatment of diseases such as salmonellosis.

Another antibiotic used in tablets and which is part of the same group is cefuraxime acetyl. This drug is already the second generation. Its dosage is prescribed by a doctor depending on the age of the patient and on the severity of the course of the disease.

Remember that all antibacterial drugs, as well as the transition from one remedy to another, must be carried out strictly in accordance with the doctorโ€™s prescription, without self-medication.
