The comedy series "Detective Monk" with Tony Shalub in the title role was so high that the producers extended its production for as many as 8 seasons. The project was scripted by film playwriter Andy Brackman. Each episode has its own name, invariably beginning with the words "Mr. Monk."
Description
In Russia, the series has been broadcast since the last summer month of 2013 by the TV Center channel under the adapted name Defective Detective. Actors of the first plan: T. Shelub, D. Gray-Stanford, T. Levine, T. Howard - did not leave the project for all eight seasons, in contrast to the masters of the scene who performed episodic and secondary roles.
According to the idea of the creators, the entire plot of the project takes place exclusively in San Francisco, but the geography of the filming is more extensive: Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles. The actors and roles of the series “Defective Detective” are selected accordingly, which is not surprising, because the casting took place under the vigilant control of the producers of the project.
Plot
Each series of the television series "Defective Detective", the actors involved in the work on the project told the audience a separate story - an investigation of a crime. The common and unchanging element that was present in each episode was the main character - Adrian Monk (Tony Shelub). He worked in one of the police stations in San Francisco and was known as an excellent detective. But his life was fundamentally changed by the tragic death of his wife. His wife died as a result of the detonation of a bomb intended for Monk. The tragedy seriously affected the psychological state of the detective, as a result of a nervous breakdown, he abandoned all affairs, ceasing to contact with the outside world. The only person who came to the main character in a period of despair was the nurse Sharon (actress Beatty Shram). Thanks to her sensitivity and care, the detective managed to return to his former life and work, but Monk had about three hundred different phobias: fear of heights, dirt, touch, fire, a crowd of people, dogs and cats, darkness, etc.
All the events described are narrated during the opening episodes of the first season of Defective Detective. Actors from the crew of the project call them a prologue.
Phobias are not a hindrance
Despite the state of the detective, the police department now and then resorts to Adrian's help in the investigation of deadlock cases, because the protagonist has noticed all the minor details since childhood. This unique ability is appreciated by his colleagues and hated by enemies. According to actor Tony Shalub, who does not have serious phobias, after participating in the television movie, he does not stop thinking about the most familiar things with concern. Now he regularly washes his hands like his character.
Repeated winner of the Emmy and Golden Globe awards is known to a wide audience by the TV series Wings, in which he played Antonio Scarpazzi and, of course, in the image of Detective Monk, who suffers from compulsive-obsessive disorders, in the television movie Defective Detective. Actors-colleagues noted indefatigable energy and sparkling positive Tony. And film critics expressed their favor by honoring the actor with three Emmys, Golden Globes and the US Screen Actors Guild Award.
