For this procedure, you must first purchase a rubber vent tube from the pharmacy . It is a rubber catheter with a rounded blind end, near which there are oval openings for the exit of gases.
Before use, it must be thoroughly washed with soap, rinsed with boiling water and dried. In addition to the mentioned device, you will need:
- liquid paraffin (or boiled vegetable oil);
- oilcloth;
- 2-3 diapers;
- vessel with water.
Procedure
Many young, inexperienced mothers are worried about the question: "How is the vent pipe installed?" The question is important, since improper insertion of the catheter will not facilitate, but only exacerbate the situation. Let's look at the basic rules. Before proceeding with the procedure, it is necessary to undress the baby and lay on the back, placing an oilcloth with a diaper under the ass. Then, having thoroughly lubricated the rounded end of the tube with liquid paraffin, push the buttocks of the child with your left hand and begin to insert the catheter with your right rotational-translational movements . The depth of administration for infants is 7-8 cm, for children 1-2 years old - 8-9 cm. For convenience, it is best to note centimeters in advance on the tube in order to stop in time when the catheter is moving through the intestine.
After the placement of the vent tube to the newborn is carried out, it is necessary to check the gas discharge. For this purpose, a vessel with water is used, into which the free end of the catheter is lowered. If bubbles appear in the water, then everything is done correctly. During the procedure, you can stroke the baby’s tummy clockwise. This helps to promote the accumulation of gases along the intestinal tract. Remove the vent pipe slowly by rotational movements, trying not to harm the baby. Then the child is washed and treated with the skin around the anus with baby cream. In case of poor gas discharge, the procedure can be repeated after 3-4 hours.
