Company History

Voronezh ceramic factory

The official history of the ceramic factory in Voronezh dates back to 1946, when the city destroyed by the war was in dire need of building materials.

But the ceramic industry in the capital of the Black Earth region was quite developed as far back as the 19th century. Back in 1873, the famous industrialist Dorokhin opened a tiled enterprise in the very center of the city, which was engaged in the production of building products and refractory bricks. Of course, history had its own plans, so the manufactory ceased to exist.

However, the need for Voronezh building materials has not disappeared. A sewer network developed in the city, new residential neighborhoods were built, so the city simply needed its own combine of building materials and ceramic products.

This need was realized only after the end of World War II, when the USSR Council of Ministers decided to begin construction of a ceramic factory in Voronezh. But here, certain difficulties arose. There was a constant lack of money, equipment and human resources for the implementation of the project. The plant was built for almost 10 years and was launched at design capacity only in 1954.

It was then that the active restoration of the destroyed factories and the construction of new enterprises began. All of them urgently needed a facing tile, which was produced by the long-suffering ceramic factory of Voronezh.

Grouping

Like most domestic industrial enterprises, VKZ could not do without merging with other companies. More than 12 years ago, the plant safely lost its independence and was included in the Unital group of companies.

It happened with the light hand of businessmen Lazar Shaulov and Leonid Maevsky. It was these people who combined the companies “Ceramic Plant of Voronezh”, LLC “Shakhtinsky Ceramics”, JSC “VKTG” and “Markinsky Brick Plant”.

Thanks to the inclusion of the enterprise in a large concern, the plant's products began to be sold not only in the territory of the Black Earth Region, but also far beyond its borders. Voronezh tiles and porcelain tiles have gained popularity in Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and other large regional centers.

Thus, we can safely say that this association has benefited the enterprise and allowed it to survive regular financial crises that have hurt the company's economic situation.

Crisis and plant shutdown

Voronezh ceramic factory

The first financial blow to the ceramic tile factory came in 2008. It was then that the crisis reached its peak and the company needed reforms and new investments.

The company urgently restructured its debts and entered a new management course. The situation would seem to have stabilized, but not for long.

Loan funds were only enough for a few years. In 2014, the company's losses already amounted to more than 50 million rubles. The situation was aggravated by the fact that the company announced the impossibility of repaying a loan to Sberbank in the amount of almost one billion rubles.

As a result, most employees went on unpaid leave, and production facilities were stopped. Fortunately, this did not last very long. Already in 2015, the owners found the necessary funds, and the furnaces were again launched at full production capacity.

To date, the financial situation in the company can be safely called stable. The Voronezh Ceramic Plant produces hollow bricks, collections of cladding material, granite and cladding mixtures.

The company's products have European standards and are produced under Italian and German brands. The tiles produced at VKZ are supplied to the farthest corners of Russia and are used not only for domestic needs, but also for solving a number of production or construction tasks. The next step for the company should be to enter the world stage and supply the CIS market.
