“If I Stay” (actors: Chloe Grace Moretz, Jamie Blackley, Stacy Keach, Mireille Inos, Liana Liberato, Joshua Leonard) is an almost mystical melodrama, verbose and sentimental, precisely acting on certain receptors of the target audience, namely teenagers.
The Story of a Restless Soul
Interestingly, there is practically no mysticism in the work of director R.J. Cutler. “If I Stay” is a film whose actors assumed there was something like that before the start of filming, which had neither religious pathos nor anything infernal. This is all because the author of the literary source Gail Forman and, accordingly, the screenwriter of the film, Shaun Cross, deliberately avoided the slightest hint of God - the characters do not thank the Almighty for providence, they do not complain at times of despair and loss. At the same time, the picture "If I Stay" (the actors and the roles of which were personally selected by one of the producers Alison Greenspan) elevates, gives hope, albeit completely naive, motivates the thirst for life, gives positive emotions. A powerful dose of sincerity and drive really catches, and also attracts musical accompaniment. So 20+ viewers will also not be bored while watching. Watching the movie “If I Stay” (whose actors are almost the same age as their characters) is at least curious.

Plot: beginning, well-being
The inconspicuous high school student Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz) had almost everything she needed in life. To find harmony with the outside world, the heroine was helped by a cello and music, the girl diligently prepared to enter an elite music school. Her relationship with her parents without cunning can be called ideal, even the younger brother of Teddy did not complicate his sister's life. Her beloved guitarist, handsome Adam (Jamie Blackley) is also a musician, a young leader of an as yet unknown rock band. The couple is actively experiencing their first romantic falls and highs. This is the plot in the plot of the romantic film "If I Stay." The actors eagerly awaited the planned turn in the plot in order to fully demonstrate their dramatic talent.
Tragedy and subsequent intrigue
But all well-being collapses at a time when a girl with her parents gets into a terrible accident on a slippery winter highway. Her parents and brother die, Mia plunges into a coma, and her soul rushes about the choice: to go into the next world after the family or stay among the living. In the hearts of many minors, even such a meager description of the storyline causes trembling excitement, not like a direct viewing of the melodrama "If I Stay." The actors, whose photos decorate the poster of the film, were imbued with history, helped to realize the director’s idea to create the appropriate atmosphere of the film.
Actors
The ideal world of Mia was built in the "If I Stay" actors:
- Jamie Blackley is a promising young actor whose play could be appreciated by the audience in Snow White and the Hunter or the television series Borgia. He is prophesied of a brilliant fast career in the film industry.
- Chloe Moretz - a talented young actress, tries herself in a variety of genres, this can not but rejoice, because the last thing I would like her to become a hostage of one image. In her incomplete 17 years, the girl plays so sensually and soulfully that eminent Hollywood veterans can envy her. She is a real decoration of the picture, although fragments of the performances of her heroine were shot with the participation of a professional cellist, and with the help of computer technology, the face of the actress was superimposed after.
- The magnificent Mireille Inos, who successfully embodied on the screen the image of the exact opposite of her heroine from “Murder,” was inspired and sincere.
Joshua Leonard, who finally appeared after participating in the youth horror film “The Blair Witch”, and the wonderful Stacy Keach, who added a certain amount of soulfulness to the film’s most emotional scene, formed a chic background in that very ideal world conceived by Foreman and Cutler. “If I Stay” is a film whose actors, despite their rather young age, have confirmed their professional suitability.
The perfect movie for young girls
Director R.J. Cutler made the perfect movie for young and dreamy people, giving the spectators under 17 years of age a dream world, a gingerbread dollhouse. Reality is a hundred times more prosaic, but sometimes one wants to plunge into such an artificial colorful world. And viewing the painting “If I Stay” immediately awakens such a desire in the beholder. Everything in the movie was done very beautifully, one can only dream of such a life (before the accident) and love. I don’t feel like scolding Cutler’s project for excessive manipulation, and there are no special reasons. After all, the genre of teenage melodrama just assumes that the author must unobtrusively and accurately lead the viewer to the fact that life is beautiful regardless of alternating ups and downs. It was precisely such a moral message that the actors, screenwriters and director tried to convey to the viewer in the film “If I Stay”.
Life is a wonderful adventure.
In fact, life is an unpredictable series of events, it is not possible to predict its surprises, turns, you need to try to learn how to learn from failures, enjoy even the smallest and smallest victories. Perhaps this will not save on a slippery winter track, but it definitely helps to get out of a coma, moreover, in the caring hands of a loved one. No wonder the cult author and singer V. Tsoi sang that death is worth living and love is waiting.
