The animated masterpiece of Walt Disney, The Lion King, which has won many honorary awards, including two Oscars, remains one of the audience’s favorite cartoons. The main characters are Mufasa and Scar, two lions living in the same pride. They are the most famous Disney characters.
Brief Information on the Ruler of the Pride Lands
Mufasa is the central character in the first part of the cartoon “The Lion King”, the father of Simba. He appears before the audience in the image of a wise and fair head of the pride. When his son Simba grows up, Mufasa tells him about the Circle of Life, about how everything is interconnected, and about the savannah.
It is he who tells the young lion cub that all the kings of the pride live among the stars. Subsequently, Simba, more than once looking into the starry sky, asked his father for advice. The lion of Mufas and Scar are complete opposites, but, knowing how his brother is cunning, the king allows him to live in the pride. Although usually this is not found among lions: it is precisely this case that will serve in the future as an argument in the debate about whether they are siblings.
Scar wants to take the place of Mufasa and comes up with an insidious plan. He lures Simba into a canyon by deception, and hyenas drive a herd of antelopes there. The Lion King does not hesitate to rush to save his son. He manages to pull Simba onto a rock, but he is shot down by antelopes. Mufasa was able to climb the gorge, but Scar, despite a request for help, throws a lion into a stream of running antelopes. And the Lion King dies. Mufasa later appears to his grown-up son in the guise of a spirit and convinces him to return to the Pride Lands.
The main antagonist of the cartoon
The scar is the main negative character of the “Lion King”. He is the younger brother of Mufasa and Simba's uncle. The scar was not happy that his brother had an heir, because he himself became the second applicant for the place of ruler of the pride.
The treacherous lion wanted to kill his nephew, but his plan failed. Then he agrees with the hyenas to remove Mufasa, and in return they can live on the Pride Lands. A scar and hyenas stampede a herd of antelopes. When the king saves his son, a cunning lion pushes his brother off the cliff. The scar inspires Simbe that it was because of him that his father died and forced him to leave the pride.
The lion thought that hyenas would attack his nephew in the desert, but they could not catch him and decided that he would die of hunger. During the reign of Scar, drought occurred, hyenas left the pride without food. Years later, Simba returns, but his cunning uncle tells everyone that it was he who was to blame for the death of Mufasa.
During the conversation, the lion drove him to the rock and wanted to repeat the scene of his brother's death. At this point, Scar tells the truth to Simbe. But during a fierce and stubborn fight, the young lion triumphs and throws the cruel uncle off the cliff. The relationship between Mufasa and Scar is one of the main storylines of the cartoon.
Brothers or not?
After 23 years, the creators of the cartoon made a statement that Mufasa and Scar are not siblings. According to them, these are just two lions who lived in the same pride and had a tense relationship. The creators noted that they built the confrontation between the lion Mufasa and the Scar on their unequal position: one recognized leader, the other always remained in the shadows.
The authors in additions to the cartoon have repeatedly said that they were inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet. Therefore, they decided to make Mufasa and Scar brothers to give more drama. It was even supposed that in that famous tragic scene the cruel lion would utter the following phrase: “Good night, dear prince!”, But it was decided to replace it with “Long live the King!”. Most fans continue to consider the lions siblings.
The appearance of Mufasa in the second part
After the success of the first cartoon, a sequel was released. In it, Simba acts as the leader of the pride. It tells the story of his daughter Kiara growing up. In this part, Simba has to learn to make fair decisions.
Kiara meets the exile Kovu. And then her father had a nightmare: the scene of the death of Mufasa, in which Simba was already in his place, and Kova was dumped from the cliff. This dream symbolizes the leader’s distrust of the new member of the pride. At the end of the cartoon, when Simba lets the exiles return to the pride (and Kovu), he hears the voice of his father, who is proud of him.
The image of the Scar in the sequel
In the second part, the main antagonist of the first part, like Mufas, appears in "King Leo-2." In addition to Simba’s nightmare, a parallel is drawn between him and the young lion of Kovu. In the scene, when he looks at the reflection in the water, Kovu sees the image of Scar. Initially, a young lion is associated with him because of the scar that he left him, thereby designating him as his heir. But the hopes of his mother and Scar did not come true, Simba takes him into the family, and Kovu returns to the Pride Lands, where he lives with Kiara, daughter of the leader.
The lion king Mufasa and Scar in childhood
The story of the strained relationship between the brothers begins in the early years. The young lion of Scar was called Taco and he and his brother were trained to become the ruler of the pride. The translation of his name means " dirt " or " garbage. " The father of Mufasa and Scar, King Ahadi, chooses his eldest son as his successor, which upsets and sets up his younger brother against him.
The story of the childhood of Mufasa and Scar is told in the book “ The Lion King. Six Adventures. " Taco wanted to humiliate his brother by pushing him into the water when buffaloes came to the watering hole. But Mufasa was able to dodge and rushed to save his brother, who was attacked by buffaloes. Ahadi manages to save the young lions, but Taco has a scar. After this incident, he asks to be named in such a way as to remember what anger can lead to.
The story of the “ Lion King ” was created many years ago, but it still remains beloved by everyone. Beautiful and emotional plot, African landscape, magical music - all this immerses the viewer in an atmosphere of freedom, harmony and conveys natural beauty.
