In the course of research, scientists found a creature that they called the Angel. Experiments on it led to irreversible disasters: the Earth went off the usual axis, the climate changed, most of the land disappeared under water. Mankind plunged into internecine wars. 15 years after the disaster, life begins to improve, but a new threat appears - Angels are attacking the Earth. And not everyone can resist them.
To combat the invaders in the secret laboratories of Tokyo-3 - the fortified city and the main base of the Nerv company - a weapon was created that can withstand the angels. These are the combat robots Evangelions, or, as they are also called, Eve. However, not everyone can become a biomachine pilot. Only a few 14-year-olds are able to make contact with Eva.
The main character of the anime series did not even suspect such abilities when he arrived in Tokyo-3 at the request of his father. As he had no idea that he would become the pilot of Eva-01 and completely forget about the usual measured life for the benefit of all mankind.
Despite the fact that the main plot of the Evangelion project (anime) is built according to the usual scheme of “humanoid robots against monsters”, the creators focus not only on battles, but also on the psychological component, bringing psychology to the forefront by the end of the series. This is what distinguishes the cartoon from a number of similar ones and makes it unforgettable. The final still causes a lot of controversy and perplexity. This anime belongs to those works that either unconditionally like or are equally unconditionally unsympathetic. There is no middle ground.
Characters
The protagonists of the series are 14-year-old teenagers, not biorobots, which only serve as a backdrop for revealing the characters of the pilots. The focus is on children who are forced to become strong, although in reality this is not so, and each of them has serious psychological problems. Only they can fully synchronize with Eva, but such an ability helps little guys in real life.
Shinji Ikari
Pilot Eva-01. Introvert. Shy, reserved, practically has no friends, it is difficult to converge with people. Often falls into a depressed state. At the request of his father, he comes to Tokyo-3 to become the Third Child. But the guy to the last resists the fate prepared for and agrees only because instead of him the work will have to be done by a wounded girl. Despite his attitude to piloting, he has outstanding abilities.

Rey Ayanami
