The famous bestseller of his time “Taras Bulba”, written by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, is still of interest not only to literary scholars and historians, but also to ordinary citizens of his country who are not indifferent to the fate of their homeland. Time and purpose of the emergence of the Cossacks
When did the Cossacks arise, you ask? And it appeared quite a long time ago, in the distant 16th century, when land was redistributed in Ukraine (then it was part, the outskirts of modern Russia). Poles and Lithuanians, having united in one state, the Commonwealth, began a war with the then Ukraine, occupying their lands. The state, which did not recognize the union (agreement on the unification of the Orthodox and Catholic churches), began to quarrel with Speech. Each of them was afraid to commit an offense. All Cossacks were very patriotic, they were not afraid to fight for their homeland to death, and they died with the name of their country on their lips. It is enough to recall the scene of the battle of the Cossacks with the “winged” Polish soldiers. With what zeal each of them took up a saber and went into battle, not afraid of any obstacles! Having sufficient physical training, the Cossacks quite successfully won the battle. When one of them nevertheless had to die, they glorified the homeland to the last (ataman Kukubenko, Cossack Shilo and others).
Andriy and treason to the Motherland
Who will be the essay on “Patriotism in War” if the story “Taras Bulba” is taken as the basis? Well, of course, about Taras and his son Ostap.
Taras Bulbenko, nicknamed Bulba, was a man of strict principles and a patriotic, fearless Cossack.
When both his sons returned from the bursa in which they were studying, he immediately drove them to Zaporozhye. His dream was to raise real warriors. Indeed, the guys showed themselves remarkably in battle, quickly got used to the rules and way of life in Sich, but each of them went his own way.
Andriy, falling in love with the daughter of the Polish governor, went over to the side of the enemy, forgetting his father, brother, Cossack duty.
Should he enter our essay on the subject of "Patriotism"? Unlikely. He betrayed his homeland, turned out to be completely unpatriotic, unlike his father. An unfamiliar woman was able to become more familiar to him than the closest people.
He did not utter a word to his father, meeting with him face to face. Taras, reluctantly, kills his own traitor son.
Father and son. True patriots
Undoubtedly, the father and his son Ostap are the real patriots of the story “Taras Bulba”. They had to go through a lot in order to defeat Poland. But Ostap did not succeed: he was captured and subsequently executed on the square. The scene of the reprisal against Ostap showed all the strengths of the Russian Cossacks: strength, steadfastness, patriotism, endurance. Before hanging, the gentry mocked the warrior for a long time, breaking his bones and beating him. But not a word was uttered by a real Cossack, a true Christian, as he called himself.
No less brutal death, Taras himself died. Having lost both sons, he did not know the measure in battle. He burned many settlements, Catholic churches, ruined more than one house. So he “celebrated the wake” for his beloved Ostap. The Polish government, frightened by the sheer scale of Taras’s actions, decided to catch him and execute him in full view. It was not so easy they succeeded, only chance helped. Bulba accidentally dropped a pipe (or, as it was then called, a cradle) in the field filled with tobacco. Being a real patriot, he did not want his enemies even to leave her. When trying to raise the cradle, he was captured by enemies.
They executed Taras very cruelly: they burned him alive, tied to a tree and nailed his hands to him. But even then our Cossack showed heroism: when he saw everything that was happening from above, he shouted to his brethren that they would jump from the rock to the entrance, otherwise they would be defeated. After listening to the Old Man, the Cossacks won the battle. And Taras himself burned down in full view with patriotic remarks about Russian land on his lips.
Why is patriotism always in fashion?
Any seventh grader can write an essay on the theme of “Patriotism” after studying this work at school. But among other things, the guys should understand that this topic is relevant at all times, both in the 16th century and in our 21st century. When a country is united, when all its inhabitants are looking in the same direction, no war is terrible!
