Giancarlo Esposito (Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito) is an American actor best known for playing the role of meth amphetamine tycoon Gustavo Gus Fring from the Breaking Bad series. For this work in 2012, he received an Emmy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in the Drama genre. Giancarlo also holds a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Family and personal life
The actor was born in April 1958, in the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen. Giancarlo Esposito is the son of African-American opera singer Elizabeth Foster and Italian carpenter Giovanni Esposito. The actor has a brother - Vincent.
In Copenhagen, thanks to the exotic appearance of the artist, the performances of Elizabeth Foster were very successful. The mother’s work developed an actor’s love for the stage and further influenced the choice of profession. For some time the family lived in Europe, then moved to America to the city of Elmsford, then to Cleveland, and when the actor was six years old, she finally settled in New York, at the center of Manhattan.
In 1995, the actor married producer Joy McManigal, from a marriage with which four daughters were born. Giancarlo Esposito is currently divorced.
Carier start
Giancarlo got his first acting experience at the age of eight, playing a solo role in the musical “Maggie Flynn”. Then from his first role he came in indescribable delight. Having finally decided to become an artist, Esposito was educated at New York College with a degree in Radio and Television.
At the age of 22 years, the role of Michael Douglas in the 1979 sports drama “The Running” became the debut work in cinema for the actor. Unfortunately, this film did not bring him much success, and he continued to act in episodic roles in films and on television.
In the late eighties, Esposito starred in the musical drama Crazy School, working with writer and director Spike Lee. So begins their fruitful cooperation, as a result of which three more joint films are released.
But Giancarlo Esposito films did not bring such popularity as the series in which he starred. Among them: “Law and Order”, “Talking to Ghosts”, “Once Upon a Time”, “Murder: Life on the Street”, “Miami Police” and “Breaking Bad”.
