Intestinal colic, what is it? These are severe attacks of
pain in the intestines, which indicate diseases and disorders of
the gastrointestinal tract. Such a colic cannot be called a disease. It is more a symptom, a manifestation of other diseases. What are intestinal colic, symptoms, the causes of their appearance and treatment methods, we will consider in this article.
What causes colic?
Let's talk in more detail about what can cause intestinal colic, the symptoms of which we will consider below:
- colon spasms and bowel damage;
- stretching the intestinal loop;
- irritation of nerve endings on the walls of the intestine;
- intestinal obstruction due to accumulation of feces, impaired motility of the colon or any other obstruction.
Frequent stresses, weight lifting, increased physical activity, poisoning, infections can provoke all this . Intestinal colic, the symptoms of which are acute, can also be caused by malnutrition, abuse of too fatty foods and poorly digested foods.
Signs of colic
Not to notice its appearance is quite difficult due to pronounced signs.
Intestinal colic symptoms may have the following:
- Cramping in the intestine, accompanied by acute rapidly increasing pain in the groin.
- Pain in men can pass to the testes, and in women to the genitals.
- The feeling of "bloating" of the abdomen.
- Excretion of mucus during bowel movements.
- Violation of feces, diarrhea.
- Pain when pressing on the stomach.
- Nausea, dizziness may occur.
- In the presence of gastritis, the patient may lose appetite, vomiting.
Such a condition in time can last a couple of hours or even several days. Intestinal colic in children is expressed in excitement, anxiety, irritability, crying and pulling the legs to the stomach. Such symptoms disappear after exhaustion of the gases and may be associated with:
- lag in the development of different organs during the first weeks and months of life;
- addiction to breast milk.
Colic treatment
Intestinal colic, the symptoms that we have already examined, appears, as a rule, unexpectedly, and strong shocks and stresses contribute to it. At the time of its appearance, everything must be done to relieve pain, that is, to block spasms. After this, the patient should visit a doctor in order to find out the cause of colic. Of course, a simple overstrain could also cause it, but it is impossible to exclude the presence of infections that could lead to serious consequences. As first aid, the patient needs warmth in the groin area and painkillers (for example, the No-Shpa medication). To do this, you can use a heating pad or a regular plastic bottle filled with hot water. Eating within 12 hours is not recommended. Better to do with weak tea and crackers. An enema can be used to cleanse the intestines. If all the above actions did not fit, and the condition repeated, then a visit to the hospital is required.
