Creative natures tend to use exquisite expressions and elaborate phrases to embellish speech. It looks funny, often achieves the desired effect, but causes sincere bewilderment among contemporaries. Something refined and sophisticated, whose appearance is like a river and bewitched each of the audience in a uniform flow. Comparison with natural phenomena is quite natural.
An indispensable condition will be the smoothness and continuity of the process. If an elegant dress shimmers and flows, the verb will be appropriate. But it will remain relevant even in the story of a fog suddenly descending on the city, or of sparks of sparklers that form a solemn starfall.
In everyday conversations
Definition for inclusion in the vocabulary? Depends on your social circle. Often, “fall off” is a suitable description for the character of the heroine of another romance novel. The word sounds somewhat old-fashioned, helps the reader to mentally go back to the passing era and at the same time builds a colorful picture of the past. It looks good in poetry and artwork. Also suitable as a compliment, if you can organically build a phrase.
But to use on an ongoing basis will be a bad choice. The interlocutor will think that you are mocking or ridiculously joking, because today there are a lot of more capacious synonyms that people understand at any age. The use of this word in official documents, where accuracy is required, and not poetry, will turn out to be bad form. However, nothing prevents you from practicing, and then decorate your speech and surprise the audience.
