In our material we will talk about the artist Gregory of Constantinople. What started his career in cinema? What films of the author deserve attention? What bonuses and awards are on the account of the director? All this later in our article.
early years
Constantinople Grigory Mikhailovich was born on January 29, 1964 in the city of Moscow. Parents of the future artist were engaged in teaching activities. From an early age, the boy began to show creative inclinations. Therefore, after graduation, parents decided to send the guy to study at the Yaroslavl Theater Institute. Here the young man comprehended stage skills in the workshop of S. V. Rozov.
Gregory of Constantinople successfully graduated from the prestigious educational institution in 1985. Then our hero decided to continue his studies, enrolling in the acting courses of directors and scriptwriters that operated with the organization of the Goskino of the USSR. It was here that he began to emerge as a professional movie director.
Career start
In 1992, Gregory of Constantinople decided to direct the production of music videos. The debut work of the author in show business is shooting a video for the group Pep-See for the song "Little Johnny". Then, for our hero, cooperation with Alla Pugacheva and the Time Out team followed. One of the most successful works of Grigory of Constantinople at the start of his career was shooting a video for the composition “Do not bend under a changing world” for the cult Russian group “Time Machine”.
Since 1996, the director switched to composing. In collaboration with the groups The Untouchables and the Code of Ethics, he is working on several music albums.
Debut movies
The debut of Gregory of Constantinople in a big movie took place in 1999. At this time, the first film of the director entitled "Eight and a half dollars" was released on wide screens. The leading roles in the film were invited to such famous Russian artists as Fedor Bondarchuk, Ivan Okhlobystin and Natalia Andreichenko. The tape started successfully at the box office and enjoyed tremendous success with the audience. Despite this, subsequently, Constantinople for a long period did not release new films.
The second full-length picture of the director saw the light only in 2009. It was a comedy film "Kitty" with Viktor Sukhorukov, Alexander Strizhenov and Mikhail Efremov in the lead roles. The film was divided into separate episodes, each of which told its own, original story. The connection between the actors of the tape is established only in the finale itself. It is worth noting that in the course of work on the creation of the painting, Constantinople tried on the role of not only the director, but also the producer and author of the script.
Surprisingly, the comedy “Kitty” was completely filmed for a period of just over three months. At the same time, the cost of creating the painting amounted to only $ 100,000. Nevertheless, this did not stop the tape from receiving a series of prestigious awards, in particular the Silver Rook Prize and the prize of the Guild of Film Critics and Film Critics.
Actor's career
Back in 1990, Gregory of Constantinople tried himself as an actor. The debut work for the young artist in this field was the role of a student in the Soviet film "Anna Karamazoff", directed by Rustam Khamdamov. The premiere of the arthouse tape took place at the Cannes Film Festival in 1991. However, the film "Anna Karamazoff" was never destined to go on wide screens in the USSR. The reason was the conflict between the producer and director of the tape.
The second acting work of Grigory Mikhailovich was a dramatic film directed by Alexander Khan, called Duba-Duba. In the picture where Constantinople plays a character named Victor, the theme of the difficult life of Soviet citizens during the collapse of the USSR is revealed. It is noteworthy that, like the debut work of our hero as an actor, the presented film also appeared in the rotation of the Cannes Film Festival, but was not successful in the domestic box office.
The last work of the director
Among the most recent creations of Constantinople, as a director, it is worth noting the work on the creation of the four-episode television project Drunken Firm. The comedy film starring Mikhail Efremov, Ivan Makarevich, Marat Basharov and a whole galaxy of quite famous actors was released in 2016.
The tape tells about the fate of the former doctor Grigory Shtuchny, who has to work as a security guard in a hospital. The protagonist suffers from a severe form of alcoholism. For this reason, he is developing a drug that relieves a severe hangover, and is also able to remove from hard drinking. Soon, the creation of a miracle cure turns for Shtuchnoy into a real business. In this Gregory helps his young companion named Ilya. As the plot develops, the central characters of the film draw themselves into a whole cycle of funny stories and incredible adventures.
