Registration of a newborn at the place of residence

Together with the joy of the birth of a new small family member, his parents often encounter many problems associated with the registration of documents of the baby. One of them is registration of a newborn at his place of residence. This necessary but unpleasant procedure sometimes requires a considerable investment of time and nerves. Depending on the region, its order may vary slightly, but mainly in the Russian Federation the requirements for parents who decide to register a child are almost the same everywhere.

So, a newborn can only be registered where one of the parents resides. This is also indicated by article 20 of the Civil Code, according to which the place of residence of minors is the place of residence of its legal representatives, that is, guardians or parents. The consent of other family members to this action is not required, therefore, the registration of a newborn can be carried out by his mother or father in his apartment, even in cases where one of the relatives speaks out against this.

Documents for registration of the child must be provided by his parents personally in the passport office, which refers to the district where the child is planned to be registered. Here is a sample list of those papers that usually require citizens:

  1. An application (written) by one of the parents stating the request to register a newborn (a sample application is usually available at the reception desk of the passport office).
  2. The written consent to this action of the second parent, also written in the form provided in the passport office.

  3. Original and compulsory photocopy of the birth certificate of the newborn baby.

  4. Passports of mom and dad, in which the registration of citizens is affixed.

  5. If the second parent is actually registered at a different address, then it is necessary to submit a confirmation of registration.

Next, the registration of the newborn should be confirmed by the head of the registration authority, which will consider and certify all the above documents, as well as pick up the passports of the parents for a few days. On the appointed day, one of the representatives of the child must appear at the passport office to receive passports and a certificate of registration, in which the newborn will already be entered. This certificate is necessary for further processing of the child’s documents, such as allowance, insurance policy, maternity capital and others.

Dates of registration of the baby are not established by law, but do not delay it, since as long as the child does not have a permanent residence permit documented, it will be simply impossible to draw up many additional documents for his parents. In addition, Art. 19.15 of the Code of Administrative Violations provides for a rather large fine for residents without registration. If desired, the meaning of what is written in the law can easily be applied even in a situation with an unregistered newborn child.

Registration of a newborn is completely free, so you do not need to pay any fees at the bank. You may have to stand in lines, because passport desks are famous for short-time receptions and a large number of people who want to get there. Nevertheless, the procedure will not distract parents for a long time from communicating with the child, who will become after her a citizen registered in the Russian Federation.
