Modular education as a way to improve the quality of education in obtaining a second higher education

Upon receiving a second higher education, as a rule, a large amount of study time is allocated to students' independent work . Modular training is best suited for those who are already working in their specialty, as one of its specific features is the ability to independently master the material at an individual pace for each person.

Otherwise, it is also called "block-modular training," because the content of the studied material is divided into information blocks with the corresponding number of hours in each. The content of the material can be mastered by each student at three levels: in-depth, complete and reduced. The student can move inside the module from one level of knowledge to another. The result will be evaluated by testing at the end of each topic.

Modular training has a predetermined activity algorithm for the teacher:

1. Reading a review lecture.

2. Conducting a practical lesson.

3. Organization of independent work.

4. Testing on the development of module content.

The modular training system assumes that the student cannot begin to study new material until he has mastered the previous one. Therefore, he can attend classes on a topic that has not been mastered, with students of other groups, increase his period of study and acquire knowledge with students of another course or take an external test. Modular training involves the assessment of knowledge, which is carried out by a set of rating points that can be obtained for oral and written work, for activity, creativity, independent work and help other students. Points are set separately, because Each test has a key and criteria for assessing knowledge. Points are accumulated, summarized and take into account all types of student participation in the work on the topic.

For the implementation of modular training, the teacher needs to think in advance not only the topics of work and the hours corresponding to it, but also to develop assignments for each block, with which you can determine the level of mastery of the content of the material by the student. The individuality of training extends:

- while the student is learning the topic of the module;

- the degree of independence of the study of material;

- on the methods and techniques of teaching each student (or group of students);

- the selection of control methods for assessing knowledge.

Modular training appeared as an alternative to the traditional form, when the transition to a new topic was carried out strictly based on the time spent on training, and not on the quality of mastering the material. The fundamental difference between training taking into account modules is:

- setting goals for each selected block and mastering it by all students of the group, but at their own pace;

- communication with the teacher is carried out according to the type of cooperation, when it is possible to discuss methods of mastering the material, to jointly comprehend and search for forms of study and generalization of the material, to find in the content of the module personal content that is most interesting for studying by this particular student, i.e. implementation of a personal approach ;

- The maximum emphasis in training is on self-study, self-control, self-improvement.

Modular training was able to integrate all the most advanced types and technologies of knowledge acquisition: a reflexive approach, phased development of mental actions, programmed training. The second higher education begins to radically differ from the first, since students who are already motivated to obtain or improve skills in their specialty are aimed at a high rate of knowledge acquisition, their high-quality assimilation and the ability to effectively apply it in practice.
