It is difficult to imagine that in the 21st century there remained prisons with unbearable living conditions, where prisoners wish themselves a speedy death. But such places do exist. One of the most terrible and cruel colonies is located in the Belarusian capital. This is pre-trial detention center 1 (Minsk) - the only prison in Europe within whose walls death sentences in the form of execution are still being executed.
History
The detention center on Volodarka, as they used to call it, is located in the building of the old castle. The residence was built in 1825. The customer was pan Rudolf Pischallo. However, the authorities of the city in those days were not satisfied with the new building in the city, and they decided to buy it. After a successful transaction, the castle quickly turned into a prison.
Famous rebels, writers and poets, scientists and cultural workers sat in the Belarusian prison . The walls of pre-trial detention center 1 (Minsk) were seen by the rebel K. Kalinovsky, the famous Belarusian playwright V. Dunin-Martinkevich, the poets Y. Kolos and A. Garun.
During the Stalinist repressions, 36 people were shot in prison, who during their lifetime made a considerable contribution to the development of Belarusian culture, science, and art.
There was a case and escape from the famous colony. Felix Dzerzhinsky managed to come up with a plan and implement it. According to historical reports, this was the only person who managed to escape from the walls of a terrible colony.
What is a pre-trial detention center now
Currently, the prison is called the first pre-trial detention center, for short - SIZO 1, Minsk. It is located in a historic castle building. There are criminals who are investigating or going to court. About 95% of prisoners are those under investigation, accused or suspected of committing a crime.
Here they serve time for economic, financial fraud, crimes related to the possession or distribution of drugs.
About 50% of prisoners in pre-trial detention center No. 1 (Minsk) are pioneers, that is, people who, for the first time, fell behind barbed wire.
The famous "refrigerators"
The premises are located in the old prison building and are considered the most terrible. On the ground floor of SIZO 1 (Minsk) there are several basement “refrigerators”. They are a small room with a bed, a toilet and a small window. The room got its name because of the terrible conditions: it is cold and damp even in the summer, the temperature never rises above 14 degrees.
"Refrigerators" are also called special corridors. There are 16 of them. The premises have an armored door with a security guard attached to it. Initially, dangerous rebels were sent here, sentenced by the leaders of the organized crime group. Prisoners who just needed to be well hidden got here too.
Finding a person in special corridors was really difficult. The walls of the chambers are meter thick, no sound penetrates through them. There is dead silence in the room. It is very difficult in such conditions.
There is no connection with the outside world in the “refrigerator”: the telephone, radio and television equipment do not pick up signals. There is not enough lighting in the room, so writing and reading there is also impossible. What remains to be done by prisoners in special corridors? Just think about life and sleep 16 hours a day. Moreover, sleep in the cell is unlikely to be calm and long. Almost all prisoners complain of constant nightmares. The human psyche in the "refrigerator" breaks down very quickly.
Conditions of detention
The cell, which is also called the "hut", is a room of 15 square meters. m. It is designed for 18 prisoners. The chamber has three-tier bunks, a table, benches. All of them are firmly concreted.
Behind a small brick wall is a toilet with a washbasin. Window openings are “decorated” with bars and metal shutters. The prisoners keep all their belongings with them. Cabinets and a refrigerator in the chambers are not provided.
In pre-trial detention center 1 (Minsk), a prisoner is supposed to be given a mattress, a pillow, 2 sheets, a blanket, and only a mug from kitchen utensils. Plates, spoons, forks are provided only for the duration of the meal, and after that they are taken back. One spoon is designed for 3 people. Eating cutlery in turn.
Daily regime

Prisoners go for walks (every other day) lasting no more than 2 hours. For these purposes, the prison has special courtyards with an area of 20-40 square meters. m
Once a week, prisoners are sent to a “bathhouse”. It is a shared shower, where everyone can be no more than 30 minutes. During this time, you need to have time not only to wash, but also to wash the necessary things. On the bathing day there is a change of sheets with pillowcases in the cells.

- tea, cocoa, coffee;
- dried fruits.
Do not pass eggs, dairy products and chicken.
Forwarded shoes should be without laces, and all creams should be in tubes only.

Death sentences
