Anamnesis - what is it?

History what is it
Translated from Greek, “anamnesis” is a memory. The meaning of this word in relation to medicine is information about the current and past state of health of the patient, the study of factors influencing him. An anamnesis is carried out by doctors at the first treatment of the patient and, in most cases, after it is diagnosed. The information received from the patient helps not only determine the cause of the disease and illness without any further procedures and studies, but also to prescribe the necessary treatment. Thus, the anamnesis (what it is, we examined above) is a universal diagnostic method used in any field of medicine. This article is dedicated to the story of him.

History (history) of the disease

With a medical history, the attending physician can identify:

  • the date the disease started and how it started;
  • course of the current;
  • what diagnostic methods have already been used and what was found out;
  • what was the treatment and what are its results.

Medical history
About the general picture of the disease, you can find out the anamnesis. What does this give the doctor? As mentioned earlier, a patient survey provides an initial idea of what kind of ailment is involved. If the patient came up with the described symptoms for the first time, then the doctor asks questions about what he did to eliminate them. If the symptoms are repeated, the doctor will find out from the client how frequent they are (exacerbations, relapses, etc.), what was the treatment like when they first appeared. The medical history gives the doctor the necessary information for making a diagnosis.

History (history) of life

The patient’s story about his life and habits allows us to determine the cause of the symptoms. Anamnesis (that this is an effective diagnostic tool, proven more than once) is collected as follows:

  1. General Information:
  • place of birth (it is possible that the disease is caused by territorial features);
  • the presence of premorbid conditions;
  • age of parents at the time of the birth of the patient;
  • the course of pregnancy (threats of miscarriage, past illnesses) and childbirth;
  • living conditions in childhood;
  • degree of mental and physical development;
  • puberty.

2. Information about diseases and infections:

Anamnesis of life

  • infectious diseases in childhood;
  • congenital diseases;
  • colds and related complications.

And:

  1. Information on contact with toxic and harmful substances (for example, at work).
  2. Information about bad habits (alcohol, nicotine and drug addiction).
  3. Information about the health of parents.

An anamnesis of life helps the doctor to find out the conditions for the onset of the disease and its causes.

conclusions

Based on the data received, the doctor determines:

  • affected organs or systems of the body;
  • date of onset of the disease;
  • its character, form (acute, chronic, subacute);
  • the course of the disease (exacerbations, stabilization, improvement);
  • reasons that provoked the development of the disease;
  • treatment methods (drugs, therapy);
  • treatment results.

Thus, we can summarize: the anamnesis (what it is, we learned at the very beginning of the article) gives an almost complete picture of the development and progression of the disease.
