In our article we will tell you what Deso's bandage is, where it came from. The testimony and, of course, the technique of its application will also be examined.
A little history of occurrence. Why is that called?
The bandage is named after a French surgeon who lived in the second half of the 18th century. It was this doctor who invented the bandage for fixing the hand in case of injury to the shoulder girdle. In those days, this method was used very often. It is still used today. The Deso bandage on the shoulder joint today is different from what was invented by the best surgeon of that time.
Modified materials, overlay technique. The Deso bandage on the shoulder joint has become more convenient for both patients and doctors. Ready-made bandages that are easy to use are also sold.
Indications for use
A bandage is used to immobilize a limb in case of a shoulder injury or fracture of the upper limbs.
Indications for use:
- with dislocation of the shoulder;
- fixing the hand after a dislocation;
- with a fracture of the humerus ;
- with a fracture of the clavicle.
Also, the Deso dressing is used during the recovery period after heavy operations.
This method of limb fixation is used only for simple fractures. For complex open and comminuted fractures, the Deso bandage on the shoulder joint is not used, as it can worsen the condition of the victim, leading to a stronger displacement of damaged joints and damage to soft tissues by bone fragments.
The fixing bandage on the shoulder joint is applied with a bandage, secured with pins. You can use a ready-made bandage to fix the limbs, which is sold in a pharmacy. Ready made from special materials that allow air to pass through. Their design allows you to fix both the right and left hand in the desired position. Ready-made bandages are convenient to use.
Before using them, you must carefully study the instructions for use and get advice from a traumatologist. The doctor will help in resolving all issues.

Bandage dressings are more often used, less often plaster bandages. What is required for this?
- wide bandage - 20 cm;
- pins to fix the bandage, you can use a patch;
- cotton or gauze roll;
- scissors.
When applying a bandage on the right hand, the bandage is laid from right to left, on the left hand, respectively, from left to right.
How to apply a bandage?
Step-by-step instructions for applying a fixation bandage to the shoulder joint:
- Before applying a bandage, it is necessary to place a cotton roll in the armpit area of ββthe victim, bend the arm in the elbow at an angle of 90 degrees and press it against the body.
- The first round (a bandage around a body or limb is called a round). First, in order to firmly fix the arm on the damaged side, make three turns. The bandage passes on the back, in the armpit from the healthy side, secures the injured forearm.
- The second round. From the armpit of the healthy side, the bandage is applied obliquely from the bottom up to the damaged shoulder girdle.
- Third round. Next, the bandage is laid back on the damaged side and comes out from below, supporting the elbow.
- Fourth round. The bandage runs obliquely from the bottom up through the armpit of the healthy side.
- Further, the application of the Deso bandage to the shoulder joint is a repetition of the previous rounds from the second to the fourth. The bandage is laid three times, fixing the damaged forearm.

When making a bandage that will be worn for a long time, it is necessary to flash overlaid bandage tours. Also, with long wearing of the bandage, gypsum is sometimes applied to the damaged limb.
How to care for a bandage?
With prolonged use of the dressing, for example, with a dislocation, a shoulder injury, a certain care is required for the dressing.
When worn for a long time, the bandages can stretch and slide off. There is no need to completely change the dressing. Her tours must be returned to its original place and fixed with pins.
Replacing the dressing is required if the bandages are very dirty or displaced. You should first remove the old one, while it is important not to change the position of the hand in which it was fixed. Then make a new bandage.
How long to wear?
The use of the dressing depends on the injury received.
With a dislocation of the shoulder, it is used from a week to a month. Younger patients require immobilization longer than patients aged 30-40 years, due to excessive activity, which leads to repeated injuries.
The use of the Deso bandage for a fracture of the shoulder, clavicle also leaves about a month. In these cases, a bandage dressing is rarely used. Often, a damaged forearm is fixed with tires or plaster.
Mistakes
Let's look at the errors when applying a Deso dressing:
- The bandage is too tight. It leads to the fact that normal blood circulation in the fixed arm is disturbed, pain is intensified.
- Weak bandage. It does not fulfill its functions, the bandages slip off, the limb is not fixed in the desired position.
- Incorrect fixation of the limb. This can lead to displacement of injured bones.
- Unsuitable material used for dressing. It slides and does not properly fix the damaged limb.
- The dressing is applied with uneven tension. In some places it squeezes blood vessels and disrupts blood circulation, in other places it is weakened and does not fix a damaged forearm.
Ready-made bandages
Currently, in the pharmacy you can buy ready-made bandages, the performance is similar to the bandage bandage Deso.
They are convenient and easy to use, have Velcro fasteners. Made from hygroscopic and hypoallergenic materials. Ready-made dressings are applied faster than a Deso bandage dressing.
Brachial
In case of injury to the forearm, it is urgent to consult a specialist. Only after receiving advice from a traumatologist can a shoulder brace be used.
Indications for use of the finished shoulder brace are as follows:
- dislocations of the shoulder;
- sprain of tendons, ligaments;
- fractures of the forearm, clavicle;
- rehabilitation period after wearing plaster.
A shoulder brace is sometimes used for mild shoulder injuries, bruises, or cuts to the arm. Wear in the presence of diseases such as arthrosis, arthritis of the joints of the hands is also indicated.
The procedure for applying a Deso dressing is simple, however, it requires some skills. Correctly fix the damaged joint can a doctor or a person who has undergone special training. If there is no experience in applying such a bandage, then it is better not to risk it and not to do this, but wait for the ambulance to arrive.
