The word "chypre" takes its origin from the French name of the island of Cyprus - Chipre. The same name was given by the French perfumer Franco Coti to one fragrance at the beginning of the twentieth century. It was this smell that gave rise to a new trend in perfumery art, called chypre aromas.
This is a memory of the ancient legend of Cyprus. According to ancient legend, it was on the island that the goddess of love, the beautiful Venus, was born. And just in the same area a certain variety of oak moss grows, which has become the main component of a new work of perfumery art.
What is this perfume?
Chypre aromas are a line of perfume, special in its beauty and originality. The fragrance also included fragrant aromas of jasmine and rose, fresh lemon and bergamot, sweet cistus, sandalwood, patchouli. The combination turned out to be an amazing bouquet of beauty, sensuality and freshness, which quickly became popular with the fair sex.
The development of a new direction
Chypre aromas reached the peak of popularity in the fifties of the last century. Unfortunately, today the use of mossy oak in the perfumery industry is prohibited, so the producers began to use another type of moss - galbanum. Synthetic substitutes for natural aromas are also actively used. Alas, so far no one has managed to return the original charm of the legendary perfume.
Classical fragrance description
The traditional chypre is recognized as a true masculine fragrance. It is distinguished by a feeling of freshness, dryness and restraint. The basis of men's chypre perfumes are the aromas of genuine leather and fresh wood.
Chypre aromas are the multifaceted smells of autumn rain that has passed in the forest. In the classic version, a shade of moist earth and wood stands out very brightly, diluted with the freshness of the citrus aroma. Today, the range of smells of such a group has increased significantly, which required a whole classification of this direction. It should be noted that new modern perfumes are developed and released equally for men and women.
Chypre fragrances and perfumes for women
The first followers of Koti concluded that the combination of a mossy-citrus mix with fruit shades can give an unexpectedly beautiful result. All chypre fragrances for women were created on the basis of the classic design.
Among the long list of long-known perfumes are “Mitsuko”, “Crystal” from Chanel, “Diorama and Diorlla” from Dior. More modern fruity notes are embodied in “Decks of Cause” from Nina Ritchie, “Fendi” from Fendi.
Floral
Floral chypres, distinguished by festive and sunny fragrances, include in their group the classic perfumes Chanel Crystal, Diorella from Dior, Paloma Picasso. The ageless “Red Moscow” also belongs to the chypre category, the floral aromas of which drove our grandmothers crazy.
The composition of the group was replenished with the recently appeared "Yohi Essential" from Yohi Yamamoto. In them, the mossy base is softened with a light bouquet of flowers of cloves, chamomile, white rose, iris and linden blossom.
Chypre skin aromas are not only the hallmark of a men's perfume composition. Beautiful combinations of natural shades are emphasized in "Miss Belmain" from Belmain, "Perfume de Pugh" (skin smell) from designer Claude Montana.
The group of aromatic perfumes includes a list of odors created exclusively for men. These are New West perfumes by Armani, Sander for Man by Jill Sander. Cologne "Coriolanus" was so named in honor of the ancient Roman commander. The characteristic notes of sandalwood in combination with bergamot and coriander emphasize the masculinity and nobility of a strong half of humanity.
Chypre green
Such odors are always relevant because they exude the aroma of freshness and young freshly cut grass. Compositions include aromas of violet, hyacinth, lavender and rosemary. The shades of these odors are particularly light and unobtrusive. Among them are Fiji, Chanel No. 19, Gio from Armani, Green T from Arden.
The description of aromas of the spicy group of perfumes includes saturated shades of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, lavender and cloves. Well-known representatives of the direction "Coco" from Chanel, "KL" from Lagerfeld, "Coco Mademoiselle" from Chanel.
Oceanic compositions were born in the nineties of the past century. This is a fashion line that exudes fresh aromas of water, the ozone smell after a thunderstorm. New shades of the smells of watermelon, cucumber, grapes, and lilies joined them with confidence. Typical representatives are Ocean Dream, Kenzo, Aqua di Gio, and Ozone.
Amber tones are otherwise called oriental or oriental, because they have a characteristic spicy smell. Of all kinds of perfumes, this category is the most difficult. The basis for it are the aromas of vanilla, musk, spices, exotic plants. Examples of amber perfumes are Organza, Opium, Coco, and Angel.
Certain combinations of oriental smells with some floral or fruity notes give incense lightness and freshness.
Classic
The closest to classic chypre shades are woody odors. Among them, mainly men's perfumes. The pronounced aroma of sandalwood, rose bush, cedar and patchouli is a distinctive feature of the presented direction. Typical representatives of the line are “Pasha”, “Van Myung Shaw”, “Herera Fomen”, “Safari”, “Trussardi Fresh”.
