Summary of the work

The composition “The Image of Mtsyri in the poem of the same name by M. Yu. Lermontov” is difficult to write without knowing the plot of the work. Therefore, we briefly describe its contents. The poet tells the story of a little highlander boy who was captured by a Russian general and taken away far from his homeland. But in a grueling road, the boy fell ill, and the military left him in one of the monasteries. In this quiet monastery, the boy grew up, learned a foreign language, accepted the faith, and was about to have a haircut as a monk.

But the seventeen-year-old young man Mtsyri was suddenly dawned that the monastery was a prison, which he had sworn to leave sometime. Everything is alien here, including the monks, although they practically pulled him from the other world. His soul strove home, where powerful mountains rise, where the native language sounds, which he forgot.

The guy fled, taking advantage of the opportunity, and spent three days walking in the mountains, intoxicated by nature and long-awaited freedom. He recalled his childhood, family, language, he longed to get home. Bravely enduring the pangs of hunger, he resisted the force of nature, which at the same time was destroying and captivating. The scene of his struggle with the leopard delights the reader with its colorfulness, the confrontation of two strong natures. But, ironically, Mtsyri got lost and returned to the places from which he had started his escape.

Climax

It is with a brief retelling of the work that it is worth starting to write an essay. The image of Mtsyri is central in the poem, the most colorful, lively. The monks accidentally found their pupil unconscious on the river bank. They again brought him to the monastery and began nursing him. But after awakening, the young man did not want to talk, as if he had broken down because his escape failed.

Only the old priest Mtsyri was able to open his soul, telling him about the three days that were the best in his life. The young man did not touch food, although his body was exhausted and exhausted. That same young man was nearing his end.

Hero image

Mtsyri is a romantic hero, and the poem itself is written in the style of Byron's “Prisoner of Chillon”. But if the hero of the British poet confronts all of humanity as such, the character of Lermontov strives for people. He has a goal - to return to his own, and not live among those who do not understand the impulses of his soul.

The image of Mtsyri in the poem is a portrait of a man who has been torn from the roots, so he is doomed to death. But why the hero was never able to return home, despite such a strong desire? It’s hard to answer. Perhaps the young man was not mentally prepared, but maybe he was afraid that there he would be mistaken for a stranger. After all, so many years have passed! Or perhaps his fate was destined by higher powers, and they did not allow him to return to his native and dear places.

Instead of an afterword

It is interesting to write the composition “Image of Mtsyri” according to Lermontov, and reading it is a pleasure. The hero may seem broken, but no! In his final words, regret is felt only that his undertaking was unsuccessful. Mtsyri is saddened by the fact that he is destined to die a slave and an orphan among the strangers with whom he lived. He is ready to exchange his two lives for one, but real, full of anxieties and roads. But alas, this is impossible.

Finally, Mtsyri asks the monk who confesses to bury him in the far corner of the monastery garden, from where his native lands are visible. He is not broken, he does not abandon his goal and hopes that after the death of his mortal body, his soul can still reach the cherished distance.

This romantic poem, written in a melodic language and filled with philosophical thoughts, will not leave the reader indifferent!
