“Sid and Nancy” - this expression, probably, everyone heard. It has become almost a household word. For many, this phrase is associated with the big, pure and true love of Sid Vicious, the world famous guitarist of the English band “Sex Pistols”, and his girlfriend, American Nancy Sponge. However, in real life, everything was completely different. They were both drug addicts - both Sid and Nancy. Their story is not a story of a beautiful and unhappy love. This is a terrible nightmare from which they could not get out.
In 1986, director Alex Cox filmed the tragic story of Sid Vicious and Nancy Sponge. The film, released under the title “Sid and Nancy,” is a biography of their relationship. This is a story about them and about the time when they were together, starting from an unexpected meeting with a mutual friend in London and ending with the tragic events in New York, at the Chelsea Hotel.

They were known during his lifetime. They were even called Romeo and Juliet Punk, as if anticipating the tragic end of their story. But drugs, love and death made them legends.

Sid Vicious is the guitarist for Sex Pistols. Sid got into the legendary group by accident. And immediately came under the influence of scandalous fame, which was known to the group. Sid was perhaps the brightest character in the group, although he had very poor guitar skills (sometimes he was even specially disconnected from the speakers so as not to spoil the sound). All thanks to the image of the perfect punk rocker.
Nancy Spangen is a cheeky girl from a decent American family and ... an addict with experience. Nancy arrived in London with one goal - to sleep with all members of the Sex Pistols. The first on her list was John, then Steve. And then she went to Sid. Well, Sid fell in love, instantly and irrevocably. So much so that soon without Nancy he could not take a step. And without drugs, which were always "taken" by the girl.
They began to live together, and Sid was increasingly moving away from the group. His fellow musicians hated Nancy and thought she was a serious problem for their work. Disagreements and scandals began between Sid and the group. When the group was going on a large-scale tour of America, the musicians completely refused to take Nancy with them. Sid was given an ultimatum: either to go without her, or not to go at all. The musician was depressed. He and Nancy broke up, and during the tour, Sid did not get off the heroin.
However, after a long breakup, they were together again. And got closer even more. Now they were together, alone against the whole world. And nothing, and no one could separate them. Once again, they plunged headlong into drugs and passion for each other and traveled the world in search of thrills. Sid began to burden the Sex Pistols with his addictions, and then the group decided that they would continue their work without him.
For Nancy and Sid, a black streak began. After Sid left the group, they began to run out of money for heroin. The couple went to New York to Nancy's parents to get money. But the family did not accept Nancy and Sid and drove them out into the street.
Then they had to return to England again. Sid tried in vain to begin a solo career. Nancy even managed to give him a couple of concerts. But the public did not want to see the jabbed and drunk former punk rocker.
After a series of failures with concerts, Sid and Nancy went to the bottom. But not for long…
On the morning of October 12, 1978, at the Chelsea Hotel, waking up from a drug nightmare, Sid found his beloved Nancy dead on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood and with a knife in his chest. There was nobody in the room except him ...
Sid spent several months under investigation. He was accused of killing his girlfriend, but he categorically denied everything and said that he could not kill Nancy, although due to severe drug intoxication he did not remember anything about the events of that night.
But Sid never found out who killed his beloved Nancy. On February 1, 1978, Vicious was released on bail. And the very next day he was found dead. The cause of death is an overdose of heroin.
The film "Sid and Nancy" is a biography of the most scandalous couple in rock music and their history, which has grown into a legend. The main role in the film (Sid Vicious) was played by the young and talented Harry Oldman. And he played it great.
In the last scene of the film, the scriptwriters stepped back from reality and showed us that even after the death of Sid and Nancy remained together.
But is there really this “heroin paradise” in which Sid and Nancy reunited after death? Probably not. But there certainly was a heroin hell into which they turned their lives, and which destroyed them themselves. Sid and Nancy. They were so young, hungry for new experiences and were full of hope, but instead of life, they chose death.
