Probably, almost any fan of unusual action-packed TV shows Morgan Dexter. Reviews of the series, both experienced critics and ordinary viewers leave the best. Which is not surprising: a colorful protagonist, a well-designed script, an unusual idea - all this makes the series really special, worthy of every connoisseur to familiarize themselves with it.

Briefly about the plot

The main character of the series "Dexter" (or "Justice Dexter") is a maniac. Yes, yes, this is a sociophobe, a completely abnormal person who is practically devoid of human emotions, although he skillfully imitates them. But he can get real pleasure only by killing people, and more sophisticatedly. He's just crazy about blood, that's his fad. Moreover, a man collects the blood of his victims ...

TV poster

That's only from most maniacs Dexter is distinguished by the fact that he works in the police. He is an experienced medical examiner and pathologist who studies corpses every day, finding evidence that allows him to solve murders. But precisely because of this, the hero, like no one else, knows what needs to be done so as not to leave a single evidence - this makes him truly elusive.

And Dexter is a maniac among maniacs. Ordinary people are not included in the list of those killed. Only criminals, bandits and dregs of society who managed to avoid punishment because of acquaintances, money, power. He selects his victims as carefully as possible, establishing surveillance for each of them, finding irrefutable evidence. And neither Dexter will be helped to pay off money, nor power, nor communication. After all, he knows for sure: the purification of society from contamination is its mission, the path destined from above. Perhaps it was precisely such determination, mixed with the eerie charisma and charm of the hero, that made the Dexter series so popular. Reviews of the film on different sites can be found only the best. People say that watching one episode is simply impossible to break away from.

release date

Viewers saw episode 1 of season 1 of the Dexter series in early October 2006. She made a splash - starting from the screen saver and ending with the final scene, millions of spectators watched with bated breath the adventures of a crazy hero, sociopath, killer and maniac. Experts noted the excellent shooting technique, and critics went over extremely bloody, overly cruel content.

Subsequent seasons continued the tradition of releasing the first episodes - they all began to go on television either at the end of September or on October 1-2. Only the final eighth season violated this tradition - it began to be broadcast at the end of June 2013, and ended on December 22. For eight seasons (and this is 96 episodes), the writers managed to maintain intrigue, and the directors and actors were able to perfectly realize their ideas. Perhaps this is why critics, leaving reviews of the series “Justice Dexter”, although they noted excessive cruelty, but still reported a wonderful plot, color and work of the entire crew.

At your favorite workplace

Each series is really chic. But still, if you try to determine the best season of the series “Dexter”, then, based on the reviews, you can select the fourth. The excellent work of the scriptwriters allowed us to create a whole series of magnificent episodes, each of which will probably want to be reviewed, and not once.

The announcement of the completion of filming was a real blow for many fans. Some began looking for series similar to Dexter. In part, this includes the American "Bones", "CSI: the scene of the crime of Miami", "Mentalist", as well as the Russian "Method". However, it’s perhaps impossible to name at least one series with a really similar atmosphere. Still, “Dexter” has become a unique phenomenon, and it is unlikely that a worthy analogue will be removed soon.

Chic screensaver

The screensaver itself, which is shown before each new series, is a kind of work of art. It sets the viewer in the right way, allowing you to even more deeply feel the whole atmosphere of the series. As one of the critics said, after viewing the screen saver, you can find out everything you need about the main character. Indeed, at first glance he is a law-abiding, directly exemplary citizen. But his whole life is saturated with blackness, blood and cruelty, and he simply cannot imagine another.

In general, Dexter does nothing strange in the splash screen. He performs the same actions as most men in the morning: shaves, flosses his teeth, makes breakfast, and dresses. However, all this was submitted using macro photography and from such a perspective that there is a feeling of disgust, hostility. Perhaps this is what best conveys the essence of the protagonist, helps to fully understand him, to reveal the dark side of his life. Needless to say - the technique of work here is on top.

A bit about Dexter

The protagonist of the series, as mentioned earlier, is called Dexter Morgan. His role was masterly performed by Michael Hall.

Dexter was just a child (only three years old) when he was left without a mother. Moreover, the unfortunate woman was brutally killed in front of her son. This, apparently, was the reason why the child went crazy, later becoming a maniac.

Harry morgan

Left without a mother, Dexter was adopted by Harry Morgan - one of Miami's best cops. Having extensive experience, seeing through people, getting used to observing their worst features, Harry quickly realized that a real monster with sociopathic inclinations appeared in his family. However, the policeman did not refuse his adoptive son. Instead, he taught him to be normal, at least outwardly. Having compiled a specific set of rules (later called Dexter "Code Harry"), the adoptive father helped the boy learn how to imitate ordinary human emotions, practically not standing out from the crowd. Well, most acquaintances simply began to perceive light flaws as innocent eccentricities.

But more importantly, Harry directed Dexter's hatred, his desire to kill on the right track. The victims of the grown maniac were criminals and murderers, scum who were not behind bars just because of a lack of evidence or the effective work of lawyers who managed to find legal loopholes in the laws.

To become the best of the best, and at the same time please the adoptive father, Dexter also went to work for the police. Just became a forensic scientist and pathologist. Thanks to considerable practice, he studied the work of the police from the inside, quickly finding out what exactly most common criminals and maniacs come across. This, combined with inhuman cruelty, a sharp mind and support from his father, turned the young man into the most terrible weapon in the fight against crime.

At the same time, Dexter himself perceives his activity exclusively as God's providence, believing that he cleans the world of filth. But before striking, he always carefully studies the potential victim until he finds evidence of her guilt. Most likely, thanks to such an unusual protagonist as Dexter, the reviews about the series are always excellent.

main characters

One of the main female roles in the series was played by Jennifer Carpenter. She got the role of Debra Morgan - Dexter's sister. In childhood, she felt that her father paid her much less attention than her adoptive brother. Trying to gain support and get approval from him, the girl did her best. As a result, she became a policeman, and very good at that. It was she who managed to find out that behind the numerous murders in the city was her brother Dexter.

Debra with brother Dexter

No less important character is Harry Morgan. An experienced policeman and womanizer, he is partly to blame for the fact that Dexter's mother was killed. After all, he used it as an informant. And also the unfortunate was his mistress. Feeling guilty, Harry adopted one of her two children, which forever changed the fate of Dexter.

Rita Bennett is an old friend of Debra Morgan. It was she who introduced her to her stepbrother. Rita was already married, having received two children from the marriage and a nervous breakdown - her husband was a drug addict and a criminal. Pretty quickly imbued with sympathy for Dexter. Well, that one, cold, callous, practically devoid of human feelings, considered a woman only as a cover. However, over time, he was imbued with feelings for her and, as a result, was experiencing a loss.

Minor Characters

As often happens, it is the actors in the series "Dexter" that are its strong component. And not only the first plan, but also secondary ones.

One of these characters is Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta. She is the immediate boss of Debra Morgan. Being not the best detective, she took a leading position primarily due to cunning intrigues, politics and deceit. But at the same time, the lady is very jealous of Debre, which is expressed in a well-marked antipathy. However, the lack of detective skills does not prevent Mary from successfully managing her work and even moving up the career ladder. She sympathizes with Dexter, realizing that the unsociable guy poses no threat to her career.

Angel Batista is a wonderful policeman who cannot boast of a successful life. After breaking up with his wife (in fact, she kicked him out of the house), he decided to use the services of call girls, but as a result he got serious problems with the morals police. For some time he got in touch with Mary, but never managed to get close to her. The significant difference in outlook on life and the constant intrigues of Mary led to the fact that the union broke up.

Main characters

Detective Joseph Quinn is a slaughterhouse worker. He used to work in the anti-drug department. He can’t boast of a clear conscience - quite often, taking advantage of his official position, he performs illegal operations. For some time I met with Debra Morgan. Does not hide the antipathy to Dexter. Confident that he was hiding something, he even hired a detective, wanting to bring the guy to clean water. However, after Dexter helped him out of a very delicate situation, he decided to leave him alone, although he could not suppress his suspicions.

Great soundtrack

Also, the series "Dexter" boasts just a chic soundtrack. Still, it is he who sets the topic in many ways, helps the viewer to plunge into the atmosphere. Understanding this perfectly, the creators entrusted the creation of musical accompaniment to Go Music, owned by the famous Harry Calamar. His company also worked on soundtracks for such popular TV shows as Doctor House and True Blood.

The musical accompaniment turned out to be so popular that it was released as a separate album on August 28, 2007.

Since we are talking about the soundtrack, it’s worth briefly telling about the translation of the series “Dexter” into Russian. This was done by many creative teams - some did better, others worse. The list of the most successful translations can include Novafilm (often with obscene expressions), LostFilm, Netflix, Amedia and several others. They are all pretty good, so each viewer chooses the option in which the voices in which seem to him the most suitable for the characters.

TV criticism

Studying the reviews, it is easy to notice that many critics speak positively about the shooting technique, colorful characters, and a beautiful plot. Well, the main complaints relate primarily to profanity, which is present in some scenes, as well as excessive cruelty.

For example, Dexter usually gets rid of the corpses of his victims by dismemberment. Of course, such scenes cannot be called a good choice for children who may accidentally appear near the TV screen.

Souvenirs are very popular.

Some viewers were deeply outraged by the idea of the series. They did not like the fact that the development of events forced fans of the project to sympathize with the brutal killer, who regularly violated the law, and hoped that the police would not be able to solve it and stop criminal activity.

As a result of numerous complaints, the series was assigned a TV-14 rating, showing that it should only be watched by viewers over 14 years old. In some cases, the series came out with a certain censorship - individual moments were cut out containing sex scenes or profanity.

TV series and book

Few people know, but the Dexter series, reviews of which are so widespread on forums and portals of the relevant subject, was created based on the book “The Sleeping Demon of Dexter” by Jeffrey Lindsay.

It is worth noting that the first season of the series is almost completely filmed on it. Of course, there are differences, but relatively small - in general, the scriptwriters tried not to deviate from the canons.

Among the differences can be attributed, for example, the appearance of Maria LaGuerta. According to the book, she is lean and frankly stupid. For the series, they chose a rather complete actress, and made her, if not smart, then at least cunning, prudent. In addition, in the book she was supposed to die, and in the series she survived and appeared in all seasons except the last.

Book series

Certain changes are seen in the behavior of Debra Morgan. In the book, this is a furious careerist, spending all her free time and energy to leave the department of morals, being transferred to the slaughter department. She does not want to hear about any relationship with men. In the series, things are different - she meets a guy.

From the second season onwards, the resemblance to books is almost completely absent, despite the fact that the book has quite a few continuations - it became the beginning of a whole cycle.

Conclusion

On this our article comes to an end. Now you know more about this truly outstanding television project. So, if you have strong nerves and at the same time love good series, Dexter will definitely suit you. Judging by the reviews, many people get the most out of watching a movie.
