Blocks of ice
Piles of ice debris formed due to natural processes are called hummocks. As mentioned earlier, they can reach a height of up to 20 m. This is a kind of ice cliffs that nature itself creates.
There are two varieties of hummocks, which are distinguished by their formation methods - hacking and fragmentation. Hacking is an object that appeared as a result of the formation of cracks in the ice cover. Ice breaking off from the main massif gradually moves in a certain direction and stops when it encounters an obstacle. There can be as many ice fragments as they like, they gradually create a small local ice mountain (rock) from pieces of ice. Moreover, the latter can harden in any position, even vertically, or at a very sharp angle.
Crushed hummock is also destroyed ice cover, however, into small pieces of ice and the so-called ice crumb. An interesting fact - both species can form next to each other. The reasons why two different types of this natural phenomenon can be found in one place are unknown to scientists today.
Hummocks can be seen in almost any body of water except for straits, coastal shallows and bays. In these places, the ice cover is not subject to compression.
Prince of Edessa
In Armenia, Toros is a fairly common male name. The ruler in the kingdom of Eden was called that way. His date of birth is unknown, and he died in March 1098. Prince Toros was an Armenian Chalcedonite. There is evidence that for some time he was in the service of the Byzantine kingdom. However, after Byzantium was defeated by the Seljuks at Manzikert in 1071, it lost a significant part of its influence, including on Prince Toros.
This ruler is known for constantly fighting with various enemies trying to conquer Armenia and the Principality of Edessa. With one of the aggressors, Baldwin of Bologna (Jerusalem), Toros was forced to conclude an agreement to preserve the throne. He gave his daughter to Baldwin and paid a large sum as a dowry. However, after some time, the latter bribed the local nobility, set the people against the rightful prince, and then overthrew him and occupied the throne of Edessa.
