Coat of arms (Yakutia): interpretation
The symbol of Sakha’s autonomy has a round shape, in the central part of which a horseman with a flag in his hand is depicted. This form of the coat of arms denotes the disk of the sun, that is, a shield framed at the edges by an unusual edging consisting of 7 diamond crystals. A similar design of the region is characteristic, as it is a traditional national ornament of the Sakha peoples. The number "7" is symbolic, because all nationalities living in the republic are collected on the coat of arms in the form of crystals. These include:
- Russians
- Yakuts
- Chukchi;
- Evenki
- Yukagirs;
- Evens;
- Dolgans.
Coat of arms description
7 crystal-shaped rhombuses identify the most valuable human qualities. “The coat of arms of Yakutia” is the unity and friendship of peoples among themselves. The name “Sakha Republic” and “Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)” are inscribed on the edge of the coat of arms.
The central figure of the state emblem is the horseman, which originates from ancient cave paintings or, as they are also called, scribbles discovered near the small village of Shishkino near the city of Verkholensk on the banks of the Lena River. The drawings were found by scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences participating in an expedition in 1545. The scribes depict the great-grandfathers of the Yakuts - the Kurumchians, who were engaged in cattle breeding and were expelled from the Baikal region by strong neighboring enemies. The horseman holding the flag with three "tails" is symbolic and personifies the unity of the tribes into one nation - the Kurumchians. The banner combines 2 concepts - the power and guarantee of the existence of a tribe as a whole. The emblem and flag of Yakutia are symbols of cohesion and friendliness of the peoples living on its territory.
Coat of arms color
The sun (shield) is designed in light silver color, the rider's silhouette is dark cherry. Small details of the coat of arms are made in the following colors: the edging is dark blue, and the ornament is snow-white. The selected palette of these colors is not accidental, each shade has a certain meaning. Thus, silver and white indicate the purity of thoughts and actions of a person, red - interpreted as life, blue - symbolizes devotion, sincerity and reliability. Therefore, the emblem is very much appreciated and revered by the indigenous people. Yakutia is inhabited by very friendly and hospitable people.

Also, a unique and peculiar national flag of the Republic of Sakha, which has a rectangular shape, on which horizontal stripes and a white circle are unequal in width and color. The banner repeats the color scheme of the flag of Russia, but with some differences. So, a white strip with a white circle against a blue sky characterizes the harsh and cold beauty of the North. It is not without reason that the Yakuts are called "children of the white sun."
