Most young parents will now agree with me in the moment that it is not so easy to scare us with the names of any therapeutic methods. However, the expression "electrophoresis for infants" sounds somehow special sinister. At least that is exactly what I thought when our local pediatrician prescribed a procedure of this type to my baby. Now, as an experienced person, I will share my experience with those who still have such a course.
To begin with, I would like to note that today, most young parents still have to resort to the help of doctors and specialists. Our mothers and grandmothers treated themselves and their children with home remedies using the minimum amount of medication. However, this time has passed, the century of new technologies, methods and the like has come. Electrophoresis for infants is a harmless and, importantly, painless procedure. This is true only if everything is done correctly. Using this method, special medicines are introduced into the baby's body. However, the route of administration is not entirely traditional. The thing is that in such a situation, you do not need to stuff your crumbs with tablets, syrups, or injections. The drug is administered through the mucous membrane or through the skin using an electric current. Electrophoresis for infants is prescribed for muscle hypertonicity. In this case, the drug "Eufillin", for example, when introduced under the skin of the baby helps to improve blood circulation and saturate the cartilage-like tissues. As for the procedure itself, it most often does not last long. It is worth noting that the baby does not experience any discomfort during it. This is ideal. Along with electrophoresis, a baby can be prescribed a special therapeutic massage.
According to statistics, electrophoresis for infants is prescribed in sixty percent of cases of detection of small neurological disorders. In addition, it turns out that doctors are often insured. It is for this reason that you should not panic if your child has been prescribed electrophoresis. For infants, there are no strict developmental criteria. It is necessary to consult not with one specialist, but with several.
I will say a little about the method itself. Electrophoresis is used in many cases. The indication may be the threat of a miscarriage during pregnancy, lower back pain, circulatory disorders in the brain and much more. Electrophoresis can be prescribed for almost any disease. As for effectiveness, in this case it all depends on the nature of the disease, the duration of the course. Electrophoresis has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and calming effect. Electric current relaxes the muscles, muscle walls of our organs. In addition to all this, procedures of this kind significantly improve metabolism and blood circulation.
As already mentioned, in many cases, electrophoresis can be prescribed to the patient. Side effects are almost completely eliminated. The explanation is quite simple. The thing is that the drug itself does not directly affect the mucous membrane and blood vessels. However, during this procedure, a person may feel a burning or tingling sensation at the point where the electrodes come in contact with the skin. Do not do electrophoresis either to yourself or to a small child if there is damage to the skin. Sometimes after the procedure, the child may develop a rash. This is most likely a reaction to the drug. In such a situation, it is better to interrupt the course for a while.
Unfortunately, despite the harmlessness of the procedure called electrophoresis, a child may have not only irritation on the skin, but also nervousness. In our case, after two visits to the physiotherapist’s office, my baby began to cry a lot, be naughty and scream not only at the moment when she was laid on the couch, but also several hours after the procedure. I decided to consult with our pediatrician, who interrupted the course for several days. After this time, the procedures were resumed, but the child behaved exactly the same. In the end, our specialist completely replaced electrophoresis with therapeutic massage.
In conclusion, I would like to say that now I am expecting a second child, and they also prescribed electrophoresis. During pregnancy, procedures of this type are often used. Indications are the most diverse. The threat of miscarriage, tone of the uterus and much more.
