Modern glue can vary in composition, scope, cost, etc. In any case, such a tool should be chosen, taking into account primarily the characteristics of the surfaces to be joined. For heating materials, for example, you need to use only heat-resistant glue.
Types of composition
It is found on sale today both synthetic and natural heat-resistant adhesive. The first type of funds, among other things, contains in its composition various kinds of additives designed to give them special properties:
- moisture resistance;
- frost resistance;
- plasticity;
- ability to dry quickly, etc.
Such glue can be produced based on polymers, monomers, oligomers. Also on sale today are compounds of this variety made from combinations of such substances. The most heat-resistant adhesive - synthetic - is made on the basis of inorganic compounds. Some of these tools can, for example, withstand temperatures up to 3000 ° C.
The main component of natural glue is sodium silicate in the form of a liquid glass solution. Also in the composition of such funds may include, for example, fireclay fibers, sand, mineral additives.
Varieties of use
Heat-resistant adhesive can be used to connect a variety of materials. For example, today there are varieties of them for gluing utensils, metal, wooden or plastic components of various kinds of equipment, etc. But most often such glue is used today for laying stoves. At the same time, some varieties of compositions of this type are intended actually for the assembly of furnaces and pipes of such heating equipment. Other types of heat-resistant glue can be used for tiling stoves and fireplaces.
Another common type of such tools are designed to connect metal surfaces. Compounds of this type are collectively referred to as “cold welding”. When choosing tools of the named variety, among other things, you should pay attention to the connection of which metals they are intended. Such glue can be delivered to the market in the form of both liquid compositions and mastics or pastes.
Clay adhesive
Modern heat-resistant products intended for the construction of fireplaces and stoves are able to withstand temperatures up to 1000 ° C. Moreover, one of their features is that they do not lose their properties even after repeated exposure to open fire.
In most cases, the products of this variety contain clay in their composition. Also, the components of such an adhesive are usually:
- cement;
- sand;
- fireclay fiber;
- various kinds of additives.
On sale glue of this type comes in the form of dry mixes. Before use for masonry, they are simply shut off with water in the proportion specified by the manufacturer.
Clay varieties of heat-resistant glue are very inexpensive. At the same time they are used most often for the laying of solid fuel furnaces.
Mixtures for fireplaces with plasticizers
Such glue belong to the group of universal. It is supplied to the market both in the form of dry mixes and pastes. Most often they are used for laying brick heating equipment. The composition of the heat-resistant adhesive for furnaces of this variety is usually as follows:
- silica sand as a filler;
- aluminosilicate cement and kaolin as binding components;
- plasticizer - talchochlorite.
Such glue is even more heat-resistant than clay. Mixtures of this variety can withstand temperatures up to 1500 ° C. Glue with talchochlorite is thus considered to be of higher quality than clay. However, such compositions cost much more.
Refractory tile adhesive
For facing stoves and fireplaces, fastening compounds of special types are used. Most often, tiles on such heating equipment are fixed using glue based on aluminosilicates and kaolin. In this case, white clay and cement are usually used as binding components in such a material. Also, the composition of the funds intended for facing furnaces includes in most cases:
- quartz sand;
- plasticizer in the form of liquid glass.
This glue is suitable for facing stoves and fireplaces not only with tiles, but also with granite. Means of this variety are relatively inexpensive. However, at the same time, they, unfortunately, do not differ in durability. The liquid glass that is part of them, after about 20 years, loses its plastic properties and begins to crumble.
The most popular brand of such a tool at the moment is Terracott consumers. Judging by customer reviews, heat-resistant glue from this manufacturer is notable for its ease of use and simply excellent adhesive properties. The tile on such a paste lies flat and lasts a long time. At the same time, Terracott glue is relatively inexpensive.
What is heat-resistant adhesive for metal
Such compositions are usually synthetic. With their help, most often metals are glued. But if desired, the means of this variety can also be used to connect glass and ceramic materials. Sometimes glue of this kind is also used in masonry.
In most cases, tools designed to connect metal elements are able to withstand temperatures up to 1000 ° C. But for some brands, this figure can be 3000 ° C. Metal units bonded using heat-resistant means of this variety can withstand even serious mechanical loads. The only drawback of heat-resistant adhesive for metal is that bulky parts cannot be glued with their use.
Instructions for use with clay mixtures
As already mentioned, just such glue is most often used for laying stoves and fireplaces. Instructions for use for mixtures of this variety are quite simple. Such glue is made as follows:
- pour some of the mixture into a bucket or basin;
- thoroughly mix the components;
- pour warm water in a basin in such an amount to obtain a consistency that is convenient for masonry.
Use heat-resistant adhesive for fireplaces and stoves prepared by dissolving with water when laying in a standard way. Clay compositions are used so that the thickness of the joints in the masonry is 3-5 mm.
Instructions for use for tile adhesive
Such compositions are also quite easy to use. Mix heat-resistant reinforced glue of this type, supplied to the market as a dry mass, with water, according to the instructions from the manufacturer. In some cases, a little water needs to be added to the paste-like products of this group (if they dried out during storage). To mix the compositions of this variety is best with a drill. The finished mass should be as uniform as possible. Before use, the solutions are usually kept for 10-15 minutes. before swelling. Then they are mixed again.
At the same time, as in the case of clay heat-resistant mixtures, prepare small portions of such glue. Tiled heat-resistant compositions are grasped after adding water rather quickly. In any case, the prepared portion will need to be used for a maximum of 30 minutes.
Before applying heat-resistant glue, the surface of the stove or fireplace is thoroughly cleaned of dust, old plaster, etc. Next:
- apply glue to the tile over its entire surface with a spatula;
- maintain the tile in a horizontal position for 2-3 minutes;
- press the finishing material to the surface of the furnace and hold it in this position for several seconds.
If the tile used for decoration is large, it is recommended to apply the adhesive not only on it, but also on the surface of the furnace. It is such an instruction for use is provided, for example, for heat-resistant reinforced adhesive "Terracotta".
Recommendations of specialists
It is allowed to start operating laid out or lined using heat-resistant compositions of the furnace no earlier than 2 weeks after the end of work. Heat-resistant composition must be of sufficient strength before heating. If the furnace is flooded too early, micro-cracks will necessarily appear in its masonry, through which smoke will subsequently enter the room. Tiles from the fireplace preheated before the expiration of the fireplace will begin to fall off simply after a while.
Instructions for use with metal adhesive
How to use modern formulations of this variety? Instructions for use for heat-resistant adhesive mastic or liquid formulations of this variety are usually provided as follows:
- work surfaces are prepared by cleaning from dust and dirt;
- the metal is dried;
- glue is applied immediately to both parts with a layer of 1-2 mm;
- details are fixed among themselves.
Bonding metal with modern heat-resistant compounds usually lasts about an hour. At the final stage, the assembly thus connected is most often additionally heated to 50-100 ° C, for example, in a heating cabinet. The time of such hardening depends on the particular brand of glue.
